Rumors are once again swirling that Pat Riley might return as coach of the Heat. I think that Stan Van Gundy is doing a great job. Similar to his brother Jeff, they are disciples of the Riley system, and coach the same way. I think the Heat have an amazing franchise with Riley as President, Stan as Coach, and Randy Pfund as General Manager. Coaching in the NBA is an extremely stressful job and takes alot of energy and passion, which Pat Riley was lacking when he stepped down 3 years ago. But if Riley's heart is in it, and Stan is willing to step aside, it could work. MY CHOICE: GIVE STAN AT LEAST ONE MORE YEAR TO COACH. Riley: <font color="Red">"I've missed it</font> at times. There were moments in the playoffs when I'd sit over there -- I'm so close to the action, I don't care who you are or what profession you're in -- when the competition gets at its very best, at its highest, you want to jump back in the fray. But after the game I usually get back to my senses. <font color="Red">"I'm never going to rule it out.</font> I think over the last couple of years, Stan has done a great [job] ... I may take a little bit more of an active participation in some of the things. But I think, for the most part, I'm content with what I'm doing." <font color="Red">LINK</font> http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-hyd...la-sports-front The article below is from the Miami Herald's Greg Cote who thinks Riley should come back. <font color="Red">LINK</font> http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/11927094.htm
Having Pat Riley at Head Coach and Stan Van Gundy at Assistant Coach would be awesome. I think this would be great. I agree that Stan has been doing great but if we can add Riley while keeping Stan, I don't see how that would hurt.

I think Stan has done an excellent job with Miami, and I think Riley stepping in now, when the Heat are at their peak for the moment, would be unprofessional...Riley stepped out when they were 0-7 in 2003, now he wants to step back in now that they're in the limelight? I think he owes it to Stan to keep him as head coach, because Stan has done a great job building this team from the ruins that Pat had left it in...

Pat Riley did not step down when they were 0-7 but he stepped down right before season started. SVG's team started off with 0-7 record but eventually got to playoffs.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting j_a_d_e:</div><div class="quote_post">i thnk so too...and i hopoe that stepping down wont be a problem for svg...</div> It won't be a problem for Stan. He has so much respect for Riley because Riley gave him the chance to be an assistant coach. I think Riley want's to be able to coach Shaq and Wade, but who wouldn't. I would have no problem with this because Riley brougt the Heat to their glory days in the 90's. This new coaching staff would rival San Antonio combp of Pop and PJ.
I got respect for Riley and all and hes a great coach, but thats messed up da heat start off not so great so he leaves talkin bout he doesnt want to be a coach in a losing team and now all the sudden were good he wants to be coach again?
I think one more year for SVG would be fine, just to see what he can do and if he does well, I`d keep him around for a little longer. If it doesn`t work out next year, I`d shop around for a new coach. But Van Gundy must have some real respect if he isn`t upset with Riley just taking over the job again. If that were to happen, Pat must have SVG as is assistant coach as before.
svg's doing a great job and rileys stepping in as head coach wouldn't be very professional. I doubt Riley would do something like this.
that isnt fair for SVG. He has been doin a great job and by Riley makin him stand down as THE coach would be really inappriote. SVG has been doin his best and by him havin to leave his coachin job and become and assistant shudnt be an option becuz Riley wants to coach.
Riley will participate but not 'coach' Heat Just to clarify the 'rumor'. Riley will NOT coach. He just wants to be more involved with players. "Heat President Pat Riley reiterated Wednesday that he intends to take more of a hands-on role with his players, but he also insisted he will continue with a hands-off approach when it comes to coaching"... <font color="RoyalBlue">LINK</font> http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basketb...fla-sports-heat
Good ^ He"s a good coach but the team is used to svg and they just had a very good seasson with him. i don"t think they should switch things up the heat is doing grate with svg

Riley can always tell SVG his opinions about the Team and let SVG decide what to do. He doesnt have to be a coach to do that. He could just be a mentor for still a young coach and just be there when SVG needs him.
It would be nice to see Riley be more involed with the players... and he's doing a good job as President of the Heat... PLUS, SVG is doing an amazing job with the Heat. I think he's already outdone his brother Jeff by leaps and bounds.
How is that? Didn't Jeff coach the Knicks to the finals in '99? While Stan has done an excellent job in his 2 years, he hasn't surpassed Jeff yet.
I overexagerrated on that one... but he will soon surpass his brother JVG.. It's apparent becasue JVG's team still has awhile to go before they can come close to contending. Tmac and Yao need to get more chemistry together and he needs to let his superstars play instead of forcing them to do something his way... he's been getting better at that though.
