NBA closing in on labor agreement!! <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The NBA and its players' association are close to agreeing on a new collective bargaining agreement that would institute a 19-year-old age limit, reduce contract lengths and raise the salary cap, sources close to both negotiating committees told ESPN.com on Monday night. The potential agreement would run for six years and would allow the two sides to avoid a lockout on July 1. NBA spokesperson Tim Frank told ESPN that the two negotiating committees were scheduled to meet again on Tuesday morning in New York. A source close to the NBA negotiating committee and a source close to the players' association negotiation committee claim that all of the major issues between the two sides have been agreed to in principle, and the purpose of Tuesday's meeting is to work out some of the finer points of the agreement that weren't addressed during a lengthy breakthrough negotiation session Friday. Both sources asserted that none of the issues left on the table were major sticking points. If those issues can be worked out in a timely fashion, the two sides would be ready to announce a deal. Union spokesperson Dan Wasserman declined comment on the story. If a new agreement is reached soon, the players would have the opportunity to ratify it during a summer meeting on June 28th. It might take several more weeks for the final agreement to get drafted, possibly delaying the start of the free agent period scheduled to start July 1st.</div> source

Great news! I'm really happy they came to one and this didn't turn into something ugly...I still don't agree with the age limit...if you can go die for your country, you should be able to play ball...that simple...but, they reached an agreement and that is all that matter...great job!
YEAH! I'M SO HAPPY! This is great. I am so glad I won't have to wait even longer to see the Magic play. Thank God the NBA isn't as stupid as the NHL. Even though there is a 19 year old age limit, at least we won't have a lockout.
yeah, this is great news. i mean, without the nba, how can i survive? i mean, sure there's football, but that's only once a week! thank god they came up with an agreement.
I'm grateful for this. I don't even want to imagine watching highlights on SportsCenter seeing all this poker and golf.

this is real good news. now i've just got to find some way to get david stern on the line with gary bettman, and we'll really be cooking
this is great news...the NBA just had one of its most successful seasons attendance-wise, which means that fan support is just now starting to grow back after the '99 lockout...another lockout would have left a sour taste in the mouths of NBA loyalists, and would've potentially been very damaging to the state of the league...

I enjoy ball and football, and hockey, but baseball i cant stand!
Thank God. I was hoping that this would be reached soon. I didn't want to see another lockout like we did a few years back. However, I'm amazed the age limit is only 19. Because of that, there will still probably be quite a few high schoolers that will be liable to come out immediately, whether they're ready or not. I do like it though. Make all the 18 year old kids that come out and think they're ready go prove it on the collegiate level. All in all, this just makes me a happier person in general, to know that the NBA will be there next season when it's supposed to begin.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting B-22:</div><div class="quote_post">Good no lockout, hopefully no age limit either.</div> They decided the age limit was 19.
