<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">FORT MILL - Deron Williams said Chris Paul has an excellent point: Why would the Portland Trail Blazers want to draft him, with Sebastian Telfair there?

Williams and Paul are elite point guards who've worked out for the Charlotte Bobcats. Neither has traveled to Portland for similar auditions. They appear to be sending a message to the Blazers, who have the third pick in the NBA draft.

"I heard Chris say it would be a conflict of interest" for Portland to choose another point guard, Williams said. "It just seems weird; they have a young point guard they just drafted. But you never know what will happen between now and the draft."

Portland is likely the key to how the top six picks of the June 28 draft will go. It's a foregone conclusion that Andrew Bogut and Marvin Williams will go top two. If the Blazers use the third pick on a shooting guard -- their position of need -- then either Illinois' Deron Williams or Wake Forest's Paul would slip to the Bobcats at No. 5.

But if Portland drafts a point guard or trades the third pick to a team needing one, the draft becomes much more murky.

Deron Williams worked out Monday for the Bobcats with North Carolina point guard Raymond Felton, plus the Tar Heels' Rashad McCants and N.C. State's Julius Hodge.

Deron Williams and Felton are very different in style; Felton (6-foot-1, 198 pounds) is quicker and a better scorer.

Williams is bigger (6-3, 210) and a better defender.

"I have the size and strength," Williams said. "His quickness and his ability to push the ball are his two abilities that separate him from me. He's a little bit faster. People say I'm slow, but that's not the case."

Confident he'll go in the top six, Deron Williams has auditioned for New Orleans, Charlotte and Orlando, and will travel to Atlanta and Utah. He's still pondering whether a trip to Portland is worthwhile.

"They have a young point guard there, so I can't figure why they want me to come in," he said. "But they seem interested in me, so I might end up going out there."</div>
