<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Lorenzen Wright, Memphis Grizzlies' starting center, has requested the team trade him after the Grizzlies declined to discuss a contract extension. Wright says he made the announcement now so the team can adjust its draft plans. He disclosed his request at a press conference Wednesday at 2 p.m. The 6'11" center, and hometown talent, is entering his last season under contract. The contract pays him $7.7 million for the 2005-06 season. Wright says he expects the Grizzlies to make a move rather quickly after being told the team will not be discussing a contract extension. </div> Source
Wright is a pretty good player the Grizzles should re-sign him, I know he wants a lot of money for not being that great but who else can start for them in the west a draft pick or what.
Thats wierd. Is he good enough to ask for a trade? But anyways, Nets should try and get him. They need a big man badly and after they draft one, Wright-Draft-Kristic could be a decent rotation.
i think he should go to the rockets... be moved to PF ...and also give Yao a rest at C sometimes....?!?

That'll be near 45-47 million for just those 4 starters. They're better of getting a big in the draft like Diogu or May to play the 4.
I had no idea how much the Grizzlies were in trouble. Wright is supposed to be their one reliable player. He's lived here almost his whole life and is a real celebrity around town, so I don't understand why he wants out; a pretty greedy move. His agent believes he's one of the top ten centers in the NBA, and while I don't disagree, I don't think that being one of the ten best centers in an NBA that lacks good centers really means as much as his agent probably thinks. The Grizzlies should be a completely different team next year. Bonzi Wells, Jason Williams, Stromile Swift, Lorenzen Wright, James Posey, Earl Watson, Ryan Humphrey, and likely Pau Gasol are all on their way out. There's also talk of a possible trade involving the #19 pick. I just don't want to see the Grizzlies trade for youth and restart the rebuilding process. I felt like they had something special at times during the season. It's too bad that a few screwballs are putting their personal wants over the needs of the team.

Wright has given them good service and was one of their few consistent players last season, and if they are content to just let his contract run out, then I don't blame him for looking elsewhere for his longterm security.

There was no reason for the Grizzlies to extend any player with the fear of a lockout taking place.

I was under the impression the Grizz won't entertain a contract extension at all at the moment for him, which is why he wants a trade. If they were/are just waiting for the final CBA arrangements then it's just a storm in a teacup from Lo's perspective.
He would be a nice fit on the Lakers. If the Lakers trade Caron Butler and #10 pick for a higher pick in the draft, they can move Lamar Odom down to the SF spot, and buyout Brian Grant's ridiculous contract, and sign Lorenzen Wright and play him as a PF. Also, there is the possibility of Vlade's retirement that can help in the buyout. Then this would be the Lakers starting 5: PG Deron Williams SG Kobe Bryant SF Lamar Odom PF Lorenzen Wright C Chris Mihm A Laker fan can dream, right?
