With the draft approaching (Tuesday, June 28th), I think we should make an official thread to discuss the draft. This thread is for all events leading up the draft and anything that takes place on draft day. Predictions, comments, or information about the draft should be posted in this thread.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Basically resigned to standing pat at No. 11 in Tuesday's NBA draft, the Orlando Magic have whittled their choice down to four or five likely candidates. Depending on their availability, they are small forwards Hakim Warrick (Syracuse) and Joey Graham (Oklahoma State, after transferring from UCF), power forward Charlie Villaneuva (Connecticut) and shooting guards Antoine Wright (Texas A&M) and Martell Webster (Seattle high schooler). The Magic say they would love to see small forward Danny Granger (New Mexico) or center Channing Frye (Arizona) fall to them, but those scenarios aren't likely.</div> http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-...ports-headlines This means that the Magic have theirs eyes on Granger and Frye the most. Hopefully we can get Granger since he is supposed to be a great defender that has the ability to score too. Channing Frye and Dwight Howard side by side would also be great. If either of these guys drop down to our pick I see why the Magic would want them. Possible Lineups PG- Jameer Nelson/ Steve Francis/ Doug Christie SG- Steve Francis/ Deshawn Stevenson/ Doug Christie SF- Grant Hill/ Hedo Turkoglu/ Stacey Augmon PF- Dwight Howard/ Pat Garrity/ Brandon Hunter C- Channing Frye/ Tony Battie/ Kelvin Cato PG- Jameer Nelson/ Steve Francis/ Doug Christie SG- Steve Francis/ Deshawn Stevenson/ Doug Christie SF- Grant Hill/ Hedo Turkoglu/ Danny Granger PF- Dwight Howard/ Pat Garrity/ Brandon Hunter C- Tony Battie/ Kelvin Cato/ Mario Kasun
Frye would be nice for Orlando they need a center to complement Dwight. They were also looking to workout Webster, but he couldn't workout because of a sprained ankle from what I heard.
Webster could have a promise. Wright is looking like a safe bet if hes there never know what the Magic are going to do. The DWilliams has kinda rubed on me as a good pick but giving to much for him is keeping me from liking it 2 much.

Now that I have thought it over some, I think we should draft Antoine Wright or Charlie Villanueva. Wright and Francis in the backcourt would be really good and then we could pick up a power forward in the second round. Charlie Villanueva will play next to Dwight Howard at the PF position and provide defense and rebounding, the two things we need our power forward to do.
Frye is the best big man we might able get. (pray hard warriors and knicks will skip him) Sean May is another good option. I think we better get a Big man instead of a Guard at first round.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">According to a number of NBA sources, Danny Granger had an outstanding workout this past week in Toronto and could be their top available player on the board when the number seven pick rolls around on draft night. With the #4 for #6 trade we reported earlier between Utah and New Orleans off the table right now (New Orleans is beginning to realize what an excellent spot they are in at the moment), Granger would indeed be there at 7 as long as things go as expected with Green or Paul going 3rd or 5th, Deron Williams going 4th and Utah standing pat and taking Raymond Felton. Granger fits in perfectly with what the Raptors are looking to accomplish in terms of his style of play and character, with the fact that he was absolutely lights out from behind the arc being icing on the cake as far as Toronto is concerned. The feeling appears to be mutual. Sources close to Granger have indicated that Toronto was indeed his favorite city on his workout schedule so far, going as far as to say that Danny expressed that he loved everything about his trip to Canada; including the coaching staff, front office, and just the organization in general. If he?s on the board (which looks likely right now before any trades have been made), look for him to be taken 7th on draft night.</div> http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1018 He is wanted by many teams right now and I guarentee he won't be there at #11.
yeah i think the magic should get a good centre.. because you have francis and he can go as a pg and sg all the magic needs now is a solid young good big man and they will do better
I have reviewed 17 Mock Drafts from various websites and almost all of them have us taking a person. I will go through all the players the Mock Drafts say we will choose. Name | Number of Mock Drafts that have us choosing the player Martell Webster | 6 Antoine Wright | 5 Sean May | 2 Hakim Warrick | 1 Raymond Felton | 1 Joey Graham | 1 Danny Granger | 1 Also, a few Mock Drafts had us selecting Martynas Andriuskevicius, the center from Lithuani. I think a lot of these Mock Drafts were older and were made before the Magic narrowe down our choices. Still, many of the Mocks show us selecting Antoine Wright or Martell Webster which is very likely. I'm not sure why Raymond Felton was projected to go to Orlando but I'm positive we won't be selecting him or May now that the Magic have their choice down to Warrick, Villanueva, Webster, Wright and Graham.
Well I think the Magic are going to take Antoine Wright now, with the other players off the board like Martell Webster, Danny Granger and the rest of the players, I will be fine with Wright he can start right away and do good, but I really want Webster.

I have a good feeling about both players and I like both of them equally. I think Antoine Wright is growing on me and I wouldn't mind picking him if Webster were gone.

Players who come to the nba from other locations usually take a while to develope into the player they eventually become.

That is why I said that a lot of the Mock's must have been old before the Magic said they were only looking at Warrick, Graham, Villanueva, Webster and Wright.
Well apparently Webster is possibly going to Portland. Portland is planning on trading down for the 6th and a later pick from the Jazz as well as Kirk Snider. They do not want to take Webster with the number three pick if he is going to be avaliable later in the draft so if they stay at three that is the only chance that the Magic would have of getting him.
I was watching the Draft special on ESPN and everyone had us taking Joey Graham, do any of you guys have any information on him, I don't know too much about him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting GatorsowntheSEC:</div><div class="quote_post">I was watching the Draft special on ESPN and everyone had us taking Joey Graham, do any of you guys have any information on him, I don't know too much about him.</div> Here is what Swish has on him in his thread he made about possible draft picks. SF Joey Graham - Oklahoma State - 6'6" - 217 lbs. 17.7 PPG| 6.2 RPG| 2.0 APG| 2.7 TO| .9 SPG| .2 BPG| .529 FG%| .887 FT% Joey Graham is a hometown player who grew up in Brandon, Florida. He also played power forward in college but he has shown that he can make the switch to SF in camps and workouts. He is average size for a SF and I don't have the same fears about Graham as I do Warrick. Joey Graham is a good scorer and is very physical. He has a nice touch on his shot and is an excellent free throw shooter. He is also extremely strong and can bench press over 400 lbs. I think he would be a nice fit for our team since Grant Hill is getting older and who knows how well Hill's knee will hold up two seasons in a row. Graham was the #1 overall player at the Chicago NBA Combine bench pressing 185 lbs. 26 times and had the 5th best vertical jump, 36". He seems like a great pick and I would love to have him on our team as a backup incase Hill gets hurt and for when Hill retires in the future. NBA Comparison: Caron Butler

I don't think Graham would be a great pick for us because it isn't someone that can help us now. I think we need to go with one of the shooting guards, Webster or Wright if we want to win now and not start rebuilding for the future.
How's his defense? I wouldn't mind drafting a SF as long as it's this kid or Granger, even though they might not get as much mins the first year, they can prove during practices that they can play and gain chemistry with the team and then break out their 2nd or 3rd seasons.
