I liked the Draft by us not alot of people did, I have to say though when he said Fran i peed a little. We finished the Night taking Diener a great 2nd round pick I taught he would have been gone. Then Marty 7'3 guy but then traded for a 2nd rounder again and some money to then trade the money to the Suns for another European. Marty didnt want to stay in Europe so good trade for the Magic. But Fran at 11 we could have traded maybe Denver for 20-22 then we would have have Hodge+Fran.

But good draft Many people say why pick Fran he sucks or the Magic Org. is stupid well how many that say he sucks seen him play? How many people have given tests to the Org. and it says there stupid?

They watch every one in the Draft and you will have Duplicates on your team: Green is athletic so is Deshawn, Granger is quick so is Nelson, were going for playoffs and Championships here and BUILDING AROUND DWIGHT no need for someone to take touches away form him. Good Draft maybe Good Free Agency maybe Mobleys coming back if we waive Dougy as our shooting guard we were winning.

Naw, Fran wouldn't have lasted until 20-22. He was a projected top 5 or 6 pick, a buyout isn't gonna move him all the way down there. btw, I'm very happy to see another Magic fan not bashing this guy without seeing him play.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting GatorsowntheSEC:</div><div class="quote_post">Another thing to note is remember last year? Everyone was pissed off that we passed on Okafor. I believe I made a poll here before the draft and 75% of all people liked Okafor and 25% like Dwight. I was definetely the main Dwight supporter on the forum and I hate to do I told you so, but I told you so. [IMG] So the same thing could happen with Vasquez, everyone hates him now and says he sucks, but what if he becomes a valuable player for us?</div>
Hey I was a D12 supporter too. Look back into the old threads and you will see my posts. [IMG]

Anyways, I really hope your right about Franny. Hopefully he is productive and does everything we need him to do; score, play solid defense and rebound.

I'm starting to like Fran more and more everytime I think about it. I mean we needed a big man to play next to Dwight and if Vazquez improves like everyone says he will, we could have a very nice combo down low with our two big men.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting GatorsowntheSEC:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm not gonna change any opinions, but why are you saying what are they thinking by drafting Fran Vasquez? What about him don't you like. Please back up your statements with some knowledgable information instead of "we could have gotten Granger or Wright" (who both btw were ranked lower than Vasquez). Please someone tell me what you don't like about Vasquez. There's been about 8 posts bashing Vasquez and not 1 of them explains what about Vasquez that they don't like. (Other than the guy who said he was Spanish) That wasn't a good explanation on basketball.</div>
Vasquez has no potential so what you see is what you get, I mean I hope your right about him doing good with D12 and with your luck with liking D12 over Okafor. I dont like the pick at all we should of gotten a tall 2-guard,I hope Vasquez does good.

According to the hoopshype draft review. This kid is not as NBA ready as originally predicted by some teams. Which added to the fact they would have to buy out his contract from his team might have been why he was slipping.

Comparison: Keon Clark / Mikki Moore Competitors: Dwight Howard and Tony Battie

I think the Magic made a mistake in taking him like I said before, and am not being swayed by what I have heard yet to this point. Does anyone believe he may have some communication problems with his teammates due to not knowing the language? Yao struggled a bit with that his rookie season, but learned the language quickly. Also the players he is being compared to are not exactly "all stars".

Yeah the players he is compared to are not too good, I agree with you it was a mistake by picking him and the language problem is going to be a problem.

Im not gonna comment on the Vasquez pick since I havent really heard anything about him at all...but with so many other solid, established players still on the board, I cant believe the Magic went with him...they must know something that we dont...

I like the Diener pick, because I believe he can be a great backup to nelson, which would allow orlando to move Francis to the 2-spot, where I have always felt he should be...Diener is a fantastic shooter, ballhandler and passer, and is also very intelligent on the court...I hope for yalls sake that this Vasquez guy pans out and ends up being much better than we think he is...

I have to say we could have picked other talent but they saw something in this kid. Lets all hope we do too. I would have liked to see us draft green or wright but we got a big. I know the Magic have not drafted to well in the past but hopefully last year and this year could change that trend. Fran looks like he can play, I highly doubt he is the spanish kevin garnett that he says he is. IF he can get us boards and blocks I will be happy.

I think picking Vazquez was a very good decision. He knows how to play, good defender, good shooter, good post player - well all in all, this guy is not fantastic in any category, but has no real weakness. He will be a solid roleplayer who can pass the ball to dwight and he can give him some room in the paint because of his shooting skills. He can also make the jumper by himself or go inside - an allrounder. He already proved that he can compete in a very good league - even better than NCAA level. No one of the other candidates (Green, Granger, Wright,...) has that experience. I really like this guy, you got to give him time to adjust to NBA-level and to bulk up but I have a feeling that he will do that very fast. Good choice by the magic.

I just don't think Diener can help us very much. At least we have another undersized point guard ;-). Good offense (shooting and passing), but I'm a bit worried about his defense he is neither the tallest nor the strongest nor the quickest... I don't see him getting much playing time.

He still has some good potential, it's just not as high as the others that was on the board at the time, but that's what you get when you draft a 22 year old. Don't misunderstand me, I don't know how this kid will play I haven't ever seen him play. I'm just sick and tired of everyone bashing the kid, so I'm defending our pick, but I've never said he would be a good pick. I'm just saying that he wasn't really a reach and that we could have picked way worse. All I'm saying is don't bash the kid before you see him play. After you see him play you can bash him, lol, but not before.

The language thing shouldn't be too much of a problem. He will know the basic stuff by the time the season starts and will learn throughout the season the other stuff. It won't be like picking a home grown kid, but others have adjusted pretty well to it.

So far we have 3 profiles posted, 2 have him pretty good and 1 has him not very good, so which one are you guys gonna pay the most attention to? Still the majority of profiles have him as being a solid player. From what I've heard he is a low risk, low reward type player. He will be ready to play solid mins now, but he won't have the potential of the Gerald Green's and the Antoine Wright's. He won't be winning any most improved awards anytime soon. Low risk players are great though, like sunser said he can do everything good, so he's a good all around player and doesn't have a bunch of weaknesses like everyone else. He would probably start for us this year, depending on how ready Cato is after his surgery.

Everyone is bashing this kid cuz they dont know who he is or how he plays. Think of what Mavs fans must have said when they took dirk. Dirk who? A lot has changed since then. We have to watch him play and then we should be critical. Just look at all the overseas players that have had huge impacts on their teams, just look at the spurs. The guy has skills he would not be first international player taken for no reason, he isnt flashy or a superstar in the making but he can be a great assest to the Magic.

Fran played in one of the toughest Euroleagues playing against Splitter and held his own. Hes gonna play in the Summer league so well see what he can do, if you have NBA TV [IMG]. Dwight+Nelson+Deiner+Vasquez+Kusun is a nice future so far maybe more pieces that were undrafted or even another player overseas could help us.

Free Agency could be nice we got Turk last year whos it gonna be this year?

The only concern at the moment with Fran (I haven't seen him play either) is that he is underweight. We need some real 'bigs' down low. Hopefully he can hold his own in the paint, and puts on size.

There was an article on another board that I post at that mentioned the trainer was gonna work with Fran and Fran said he wanted to get up to 265(I believe he's like 235 now). We will get to see what he's made of in a couple weeks as the Summer League will be starting then. The practices start sometime in the upcoming week.

Yeah I can't wait until the summer league. I want to see Fran matchup against guys like Andrew Bynum, Sean May and Channing Frye. Hopefully he will play well and make me happy about our pick. [IMG]

It doesn't look like he will be playing in the summer league this year. We will just have to wait until training camp to finally get to watch him play.
