By way of LG.net: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Another trade rumour rumbling around the NBA final was that the Los Angeles Lakers, looking to move up, were offering No. 10 and a package of suspect players for No. 7 and Jalen Rose. However, in any deal for Rose, the Raptors would have to get back someone who would be able to provide the consistent offence they?d be losing. "We?ve made some calls, we?ve received some calls," said Babcock.</div> http://www.metronews.ca/sports_news_fullstory.asp?id=9189
ODOM!!!! that wouldnt be too bad. But I wanna see an impact player from the draft. Kobe and Rose? Doesnt look good to me.
Finally a deal I think makes sense for the Lakers. Jalen Rose is the perfect big-guard to play in the Triangle. I know Rose has had a history of being 'selfish' and what not, but listening to him lately BDSS, I think he's at a point in his career where he wants to win games. He is Pro-Kobe, which is an added plus, and Phil Jackson will get him to play defense the way he's capable of. Not sure what will be left at #7, but definitely more options than at #10. The Lakers could get their choice of big men Channing Frye, Franz Vazquez, or Andrew Bynum. Possible lineup... PG - Rose SG - Kobe SF - Odom PF - Frye C - Mihm Pull the trigger Mitch.
EVERY SINGLE time I have seen or heard Jalen on t.v or radio when the Lakers or Kobe has been mentioned he has spoken highly of them. He has said recently on Dan Patrick that everybody ion the game knows that Kob is the best player not 6-11 or above; that guys just won't conceed it because most of the are guards. He said that LA is one team that could offer him his dream of playing the pg. This is a match made in heaven and even if we can only get Toronto's second first rounder in able to take his contract and have to give up(GULP) Caron. I think it absolutly makes us a true(if healthy) contender next year. But Mitch must take advantage of that pick and draft youth aka (B.Y.N.U.M).
I hope this does not happen because thats ridiculous, from the point of view of a Raptors fan. We need someone who is consistent like Jalen and he is our best pure scorer for now, right there with Bosh. But this trade would be just like the Vince Carter trade, just throwing away talent for nothing. On top of it we get a worse pick, that really sucks. If Jalen is to be traded, I hope to at least get something of a scorer back like E. Jones, Wally, or Hill.
I'm not so sure about this...Jalen has a nice offensive game, but his D isn't up to par with what we need. Who's gonna guard the Parkers and Nashes .... The Lakers woes last season were most apparent on the defensive end. #1 priority should be correcting that, and I don't think Rose fits that bill
I could see Rose being in that Ron Harper role in the Triangle, and he is a pretty good passer when he wants to be, but would the trade make sense for the Raptors? Unless Toronto wants to unload Rose's contract, they should get at least Caron Butler in return. The 7th pick is higher in value than the 10th so fillers wouldn't balance the deal. As others have said, the Raptors need a consistent scorer, I also don't recall any trades Toronto made to dump some big contracts.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting lafever8:</div><div class="quote_post">doesn't rose have a huge contract?</div> Yes he's making $15,694,250 this season. And has one more year after that left.
I would love to see this trade go down, as long as they give up Rose with a package of players for a point guard or a center, because Jalen Rose is a shooting guard, and not a point guard, and Kobe is the Lakers SG and doesn't have to be moved up to the SF because Caron is there. The Lakers should Atkins and Rose for a good point guard, or trade Rose and Mihm for a better center. Then the projected lineups can look like this: PG Chucky Atkins SG Kobe Bryant SF Caron Butler PF Channing Frye C A better center than Mihm or PG a better point guard then Atkins SG Kobe Bryant SF Caron Butler PF Channing Frye C Chris Mihm Still though, Mihm has only been good playing at home, while Atkins has been a little more consistent, so I would like them to send Mihm off, as I don't think him or Vlade or doing much for this squad.
That is brutal for the Raps... who do we get in return of giving up a solid scorer and the valuable #7 pick for the much less worth 10 pick and fillers... Wow.

He's not a true point guard. He's a terrible defender. He likes the three ball WAY too much. Oh, and he's fairly undersized. No. I do not want Atkins to run the point next year. Hopefully this trade does go down so either Rose can run the point or they draft a point guard. Either way, I don't want Atkins running the point.
