VITALS: 6-0, 175, Wake Forest OVERVIEW: A consensus All-American in 2005 as a sophomore and the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Paul leaves Wake Forest with 948 career points, 395 assists and 160 steals. His career 3-point percentage of 47 percent is the second-highest in Deacons history and his 212 assists this past season were the third most in school history and the most since Muggsy Bogues in 1987. Paul started 62 of 63 games during his two years and helped Wake to 48 wins, including a school-record 27 victories last season. LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Paul has a very narrow draft range, owing both to his excellent point guard abilities and the need for a point guard among the teams drafting in the first half of the lottery. It appears now that the first three teams won't draft Paul, preferring to go with bigger players. His first good chance to be selected comes at No. 4 with New Orleans. If he doesn't go there, it is likely Charlotte takes him with the fifth overall pick. Utah is sixth and also in the market for a point guard. COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Tony Parker, Luke Ridnour COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jay Williams ROLE PROJECTION: Immediate starter. POSITIVES: Paul has a complete package of point guard skills, including the ability to penetrate and set up teammates for shots, shake defenders and get his own shot. He has quick hands and great lateral movement to cause steals and be disruptive playing on-the-ball defense, as well as leadership qualities that enable him to quarterback the team. Paul also has good range on his shot and is deadly out to the college 3-point line. SHORTCOMINGS: In a word, Paul is short, although not quite as short as first thought. He was listed as 6-0 throughout his college career, but he measured at 6-1 at the NBA's Pre-Draft Camp in Chicago. He is strong for his size but is going to encounter some difficulties playing against the bigger point guards in the league, who will try to post him up. He also just turned 20, so there will be learning curve and a natural maturation process he will need to go through.
I really think Chris Paul is a very good player, but I have a problem with him being so highly rated after last year jameer dropped to 20, jameer was superior in every aspect of the game except 3 point shooting, and he wasn't even very bad at that. His only knock againbst him was his height and paul has the same knocvk,, okay he's an inch taller, big difference, I'm just wondering why is Paul such a great prospect when nelson wasn't? Is it only because he was younger, well look at Nelson's sophomore stats in college, they're not so bad either. I'm really curious why paul is on a pedistal so far above nelson.
Chris Paul is just another overrated player out of the ACC. He just as good as Salim Stoudamire in my eyes. He's another scoring Point guard, If i can compare him to somebody, it's Allen Iverson, or Marbury, 2 ballhogs that get credit for half their teams points, after they take 4/5 of the shots.

how can Jay Williams be a comparitive downside. He got really injured and isnt considered a good player nor a bad player.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Flava23:</div><div class="quote_post">I dont think size is gonna hurt him a lot. Look at AI, 6'3 and leads the league in scoring</div> Wow, don't know what Iverson your talking about, the only one I know is barely 6-foot.

Shape, Jay Williams is still a pretty good point guard. His main problems are mainly between his ears, but got skills, so if that's the downside, you're basicly guarenteeing a Hall Of Famer in Paul. If you meant Duke's Jay Williams, the accident he was involved in denied us the chance of what he's going to develop into. He had pretty good season before the unfortunate accident as well. So I'm kinda lost here.
Chris Paul will be a winner for life. If it doesn't go well wherever he is drafted, he'll get out of it, and make sure he wins. He is easily the best leader in the Draft IMO, although sometimes he has lapses(lower area shot in late season). Possibly jason Kidd like. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Tony Parker, Luke Ridnour </div> Parker-Yes Ridnour- No way
Chris Paul is an upright individual, and a great leader everyone in the draft should model themselves after, just ask julius hodge and his nuts . . . The kid's not a leader, he's still an infant, he's got huge amounts of tallent and i honestly think he's the best guard in the draft but don't give me crap about him being a leader, he's a childish brat. I think he should be drafted high but i don't get why he's getting so hyped when a superior nelson didn't last year
Chris Paul on getting drafted by the Blazers with Sebastian Telfair already on the teammmmmm: "I guess one of us is getting traded". I remember there was a similar argument with Raymond Felton and Stephon Marbury. Rookies these days
^ What's your point? They won't keep Paul and Telfair, that would be idiotic. And Felton didn't say anything about Marbury being traded, he said, Marbury has the ability to play the 2 while Felton could take the 1 if he was drafted by the Knicks.
Yeah Chris Paul is going to be a really great player his height is not going to hurt him that much he is really quick and can shoot he is going to be a future all-star in this league.
