VITALS: 6-3, 185, Illinois OVERVIEW: After a junior season in which he was suspended twice, Head finished his senior year in the national championship game, nearly bringing the Fighting Illini back from a big deficit against North Carolina. Head, who scored 21 points in the final, was a first team All-Big Ten performer, averaging 15.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists. An excellent 3-point marksman, Head hit 41 percent - fifth in the conference - and averaged over seven shots from the arc. His 116 3-pointers was a single-season school record. LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: 31-40 in the second round. COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Gilbert Arenas COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Laron Profit ROLE PROJECTION: Backup at both guard spots. POSITIVES: Head showed a gym full of NBA scouts that he could shoot the 3-pointer with anyone in college basketball. Fortunately for him, they were already sold on him as a defender, secondary ballhandler and slasher to the basket. Head has a wide range of skills, although some thought his talents were masked by playing with stars Deron Williams and Dee Brown at Illinois. Everyone knows about him now. SHORTCOMINGS: When playing 2-guard, the 6-3, 180-pound Head will be giving up several inches and pounds. He will have to use his quickness, tenacity and feel for the game to make up for the physical disadvantage.
