    VITALS: 6-7, 250, Providence

OVERVIEW: Gomes is Providence's all-time leading scorer and the only player to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in his career at the school. The two-time All-Big East performer averaged 21.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists as a senior. For his career, he shot 52 percent from the floor, including 35 percent from the arc, and converted 79 percent of his free throws. After taking just six 3-pointers in his first two years, Gomes converted one-third of his 87 shots from the arc as a junior and 38 percent of 137 3-pointers this season.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Late first round or early second round.

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Corliss Williamson

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Clarence Weatherspoon

    ROLE PROJECTION: Small power forward.

POSITIVES: Gomes is a polished player, both in skill and physical readiness for the NBA. He is strong enough to post up close to the basket and can score well even against bigger opponents. He has vastly improved his shooting touch and range, making it possible for him to swing down to the small forward spot as well. He is a physically and mentally tough player who knows what leadership is about.

SHORTCOMINGS: Gomes doesn't easily fit into the power forward or small forward prototype. He is not tall but will battle against bigger people. He isn't a great perimeter shooter but can make shots. His lack of a position is the one area that people will point to by way of explaining why he did not go higher in the draft.
