That's what he does every summer. But it may become a full-time gig for the 34-year-old if he chooses to retire, which he will consider. ``This isn't the time to make those kind of decisions,'' Hunter said moments after Detroit's Game 7 loss at San Antonio on Thursday. ``Let me spend a month or two with the kids, and then we'll see.'' </div> Source
Yeah, he is great defender. I remember the defense he played on wade in the eastern conference finals.
Hunter was a huge part of the Pistons, with his defense and intensity...however, he now has become little more than a defensive specialist who can be used in short stints...either way, this might be good for Detroit because it gives more minutes to Arroyo, who I still think will make a deadly PG tandem with Billups...
If he retires I personally would be concerned with the state of the Pistons right now. There bench is not the strongest in the league. Hunter and Mcdysess are the few good players that can provide them with a spark off the bench. Unless they sign some good players this off season I think it will be a tough road for them to return to the finals next season. If Larry is not there then I expect Darko to get some big minutes, but even then you have two big men who can give you a spark off the bench, but who can provide your guards with some rest? I do not think having Arroyo will cut it he is a good offensive scorer, but his defense leaves something to be desired, and the offense being run when he is on the court looks worse then Mutombo. I think they will have to take a serious look at improving there bench in the draft, and through free agency with players like Chris Duhon who will be free agents. Possibly take a look at signing a player like him. Who started for the Bulls last season, because he had great ball control (for the most part), and could play decent defense.
Hunter barely played in the regular season, due to his defense was needed in the playoffs. The Pistons will have the MLE, the min to get guys to fill the bench. That won't be a problem at all. Joe Dumars knows what he is doing to get the Pistons back into the finals for the 3rd straight year. If Larry leaves then I see Arroyo being much more improved. His game just wasn't suited to Larry Brown. Fip Saunders would be a better coach for him. There's no reason to be worried about the Pistons bench for next season.
