These are two gifted players and can obviously change a game around with how they play. I was wondering about this and who would you rather have on your team Arenas or Hughes? explain why and explain who you think is a better player. thank you..
I'll take Hughes, he puts up great offensive numbers, but he can also play phenominal defense. Arenas is also good, he just doesn't play both sides of the ball as well as Hughes.
Hughes becuase hes the right size for a shooting guard while arenas is slightly undersized for a sg so hes forced to play pg. I would want a passing pg on my team rather then a shooting guard trapped in a point guards body. Also hughes plays better defense.
Arenas by a pretty wide margin. He can score from anywhere on the floor while Hughes is pretty much limited to taking it to the basket.Arenas is capable of taking over games and can easily by moved to the 2 spot.People talk about how it doesnt matter if your shot is ugly,as long as it goes in.Well Hughes shot is ugly and it doesnt go in.Sure Hughes bothers dudes with his D but Arenas is a nice defender as well.Arenas is damn near among the elite players in the league.Cant believe im the first to say Arenas.
Arenas is one of the elite players i mean hez an all star so i agree with you on that. But on the contrary Hughes shot isnt ugly at all and its goes in most of the time.
Arenas isn't forced to play the PG, he is a PG. Arenas is closing in on the superstarish level, while Hughes is an All-Star type player. Hughes while a good scorer is focused in as the 3rd option by opposing defense, while Arenas is looked at as the first option. Arenas is a much better and more efficient scorer, a better shooter, and a better penetrator. While Hughes has the defensive advantage, he's a good defender in certain matchups, but not a shut down man to man defender. Arenas is also a good off ball defender and can force steals, though not as well as Hughes, and he's a slightly below average on ball defender. Arenas has the advantage because he's a superior offensive player, but also a capable franchise player, and is a first option. Hughes is right there with him, but his more of a complimentary player, and while he can be a good defender, he's not consistently good defensively, only against certain players.

He's close to being a superstar, but Hughes has some good offensive skills, maybe not as good as Arenas, but he can out up 20-30 at any time. I pick Hughes based on defensive skills. I think Hughes would've been an All Star but he got injured in the first half of the year, so he didn't play as much as Hughes. If you look at their stats, they basically put up the same numbers with Hughes being injured for 19 games.
I definetely pick Arenas over Hughes. Arenas can score alot of points and can get his teammates involved in the game. His assist numbers arent that solid for a pg but 5.1 is good. Alot of people including me say Hughes is a pg/sg since he isnt that tall for a SG and not that small for a PG. Hughes can score the ball but defensive matchups are horrible for him. Another SG can body him up and work the post on him.

Kobe is a lot stronger than Hughes, but wasn't able to take advantage of him in the post, yet Vince destroyed Hughes when he was matched up against him. Same with Jefferson, Hughes took him out of his game, but Hughes was hardly able to do anything when playing against Wade. It depends really, some strong guys still aren't able to get it going against him because he's good in ball pressure and if you don't protect the ball well, you will get swiped.

Yes, he converted from SG to PG, that doesn't mean he's now forced to play PG. He currently has no objections to playing it, and wants to, so how is that being forced?
Not taking anything away from Larry Hughes as a player, but I would take Arenas if I was building a NBA roster, and had to choose between the two of them. Arenas really gives Hughes the freedom to do what he does on offense Larry was on the Wizards before Arenas with Michael Jordan and Jerry Stackhouse yet really did not excel his game to another level until the acquirement of Gilbert Arenas and Jamison. Gilbert Arenas also averaged 25.5 PPG (7th in the league) this season, and this is only his fourth year in the league compared to Larry Hughes who has yet to average over 23 points a game in his seven NBA seasons. Do not get me wrong I love both players, but Arenas is going to be a better player in the long run. In each of his four seasons in the league Arenas has increased his scoring. From ten points a game to eighteen to nineteen his first season with the Wizards, and this year to twenty five points, and an all star birth in the heavy loaded guard spot on the Eastern Conference All Star team. He also received recognition by being placed on the All NBA Third team and that is a huge accomplishment as well. Both are great overall players, and it depends on your preference in styles you can not go wrong with either player. Hughes did lead the league in steals per game this season, and was named to the league all defensive team. So he has a few accomplishments t his name as well he is no slack. One thing that turns me off about Hughes is the last three seasons he has not played over 70 games in any of the seasons 67 was the most he played the last three years. Gilbert Arenas had a pretty good season in terms of games played playing 80 this season, and 82 his second season in the league. Last season he had a pretty injury prone season, however for the most part he has played when he has been able to. My preference is Arenas like I said before, but Hughes is a great player in his own right.
Gilbert Arenas because he's from The University of Arizona. Larry Hughes is a free agent, perhaps they could work out a sign and trade and maybe get some size on that roster. Than again that whole roster is going to be shook up with Kwame and Juan Dixon reaching free agency this summer as well.
I'd rather have Arenas because he plays, arguably, the most difficult position in basketball, and he's established...he can score, pass and defend, and I'd feel more comfortable knowing that I have a sound, All-Star calibre point guard than a shooting guard...
