This just in! Your source is an idiot. Bogut was number one from the jump. And where did Blatche go, HOLY JESUS were you about 30 picks off on that one. DING! that's the timer on your 15 minutes of fame. Now please leave. And I'd love to know who your "source" in Chicago Bulls media managment is, especially seeing my Aunt is the Executive Diector of Public Relations for them. I'm curious to who's running around wasting their time making crap up to make you feel special. It's ok though, I wont get my hopes up, chances are you'll never "give up" your source. You must be a close personal friend of Jeff VanGundy's too then right? I mean it would only make sense.

The odds are Marvin will be a very good player-eventually,but the deal is that he has a mild case of Chris Taft syndrome, has got big praise although he had slacked too much during the season, really did not add skills and full time effort to the physical package. He seems bright,a kid with charachter-so he's had the benefit of the doubt. Assuming he does focus and give max effort, especially on D,rebounding,he will need to catch up on the skill side, learn those techniques he should have last year. IF he does it all just right,in a year he could start to look pretty good, but it will still be a while before hes a big star. Bogut was a decent player a year ago and improved on a rapid pace. Is scoring and Rbd numbers were remarkable. College centers really have not had such production in recent years. Bogut regularly showed skills half the NBA veterans lack, and Bogut always gave his best effort.

Further-the drop off from Bogut to the 2nd,3rd,4th, Centers was big. At F,the "next best" were Diogu,Warrick,Granger..and each had produced much better numbers than Marvin, were safe picks, solid as-is.

Blatche should have gone top 20. It's ironic, the Wiz overrated Kwame Brown badly-and may have picked a better player in round 2

what do you mean he suffers from chris taft syndrome!? chris taft is lazy and takes plays off. marvin has outstanding work ethic and gives his best every play. he's gonna be a star, within 3 years. period.

C'mon,he's a likable guy but his D was frankly quite pathetic and he was soft on the boards, not at all inclined to box out or fight for position. I saw at least 6 UNC games and if I had a quarter for every time I saw him boxed out by a smaller guy,I'd buy a sixpack. Marvin got used to having such a physical edge in HS,that he didn't really develop a power game as an inside scorer or as a rebounder, and when it comes to D,he's simply not giving much effort. As I said,I figure he will figure it out,Taft,I'm less confident in. Marvin appears to have worked on his physical development and his perimeter shot, but I'd hardly give him better than a C- for the work ethic he shows...which accounts for Manual getting similar minutes despite far less natural talent. If you look it up,Marvin was not among the top 400 scorers in the NCAA this year-and that's pretty much what he focused on. #2 pick....not in the top 400,that's some underachieving.. However optimistic any of us are, until he's willing to pay his dues, all that "potential" is hope more than fact.

Taft sure could have shown a lot more, but I'm not sure he's got the quick reflexes and instincts to really play a high energy game. Marvin at least can turn it on,when he got a good opportunity in transition,he impressed.

bogut was a better pick for the bucks, they need a solid center but so does the hawks

Now come one Rerem, you should know better than this. For starters, he was coming off the bench. Ok, secondly, if you placed his numbers into a Per 40/min average (which is what the NBA does, 48 minutes, to accuratly project a players productivity) you would see his numbers skyrocket up the board. THIRDLY, Jackie Manuel and Marvin Williams played different positions. Jackie started because he was the sole defensive stopper in the lineup, and was designated to shut down each teams oposing star (Reddick, Gray, Hite, Hodge) So you can't even add that into the discussion. I know you were less than impressed in the 6 games you saw this season. However, if you had seen him throughout a whole season, and saw how he not only developed, but at the rate he did so, in the top conference in the country, and on a team where he defered to several other players, his numbers where astounding. Plus, when May is pulling down over 10 boards a game, Jawad Williams over 5, there are not too many to rip down when coming off the bench. It's not the effort he must improve on, it's his tenacity and his agressivness. A huge difference from just lack of effort and laziness, ala Chris Taft.

Sorry Rerem I had to post again cuz I have to defend my boy. Here's the line.

YR GMS MIN PTS REB AST TO A/T STL BLK PF FG% FT% 3P% PPS
    2004-05 36 22.2 11.3 6.6 0.7 1.6 1/2.2 1.1 0.5 2.6 .506 .847 .432

So, an 18 year old kid, who puts up these kinda numbers, in barely half a game's worth of minutes, isn't productive? You dont see the ability here? And there are guys drafted all over the place who are labeled great picks or quality big men, who didn't pull down 6.6 boards a game? And I'm sure everyone here saw him out hustle and push your boy Sheldon Williams off the block on a missed free throw, nad the offensive board and not just get the put back, plus a foul. Thats not hustle and effort!?! I'll take a kid who shoots over 50%fg over 40% 3pt and over 85% from the line every single year in the Top 5. Numbers aren't everything, but they also dont lie. Had he been getting starters minutes, overused bloated minutes, like say JJ Redick and Sheldon Williams, he'd be putting up over 20/10. Period. Then you perspective would be a lot different.

I also saw him get blocked 4 times by sheldon Williams before he learned he needed to use a fake and some aggressiveness to score around Sheldon. First time I saw him I saw a guy take a J a few feet from him. He could have taken a step and put a hand up...but he didn't. I saw him hit a 3 that game with classic jumpshot form, then I saw him easily muscled out of rebound position, then I saw him run well on a fast break. I got a mixed impression,so I was looking at his effort and skills on D and rebounding in games after that, and, overall his D and Rebounding efforts were not good, though being athletic,he had some ability to make up for not using good fundamentals.

What Marvin does well is certainly impressive, but I see no good reason why he would not be a better rebounder and defensive player. I saw failures to execute techniques that pretty much every player was taught by the time he started a HS game-which tells me he probably knows what to do,just doesn't always do it,and since he was in a platoon role,it should not be a case of pacing himself. I could only conclude that this player had his priorities and D was low on the list. I also still feel, and we argued this before, that if Marvin was putting more into his total game-in particular, his D,he'd have had a staring role and big minutes. After all, this IS a little debate over whether he is potenially the best non-NBA player on the planet...and J Williams,Manual went undrafted. Roy Williams is not a huge fool who would be playing his superstar short minutes behind a couple of non-prospects were it not a matter of Marvin's consistant effort, especially on D,being a problem.

As the question is whether he should be picked ahead of Bogut, and everyone else, the standards are high. To reach potential, any player has to work hard to gain skills, has to work hard to execute those skills on the floor. Marvin could have easily pushed himself harder on D and rebounding, enough to convince me he had the level of commitment to reach his considerable potential. He didn't. So that leads me to feel there is a significant risk he won't quite push himself enough. Maybe he turns it around and does make up for lost time. That he regularly showed less than full effort is some areas has to be a bit of a worry, enough to concern a team investing a top 5 pick.
