The Nets biggest wholes are there bench and front court play. Wright was in my opinion the highest ranking shooting guard left in the draft at that point, and they need bench help playing Vince and RJ 48 minutes each night would eventually lead there bodies to break down. The free agency market for big men is probably the best crop we have seen in recent years. Dalermbert, Chandler, Curry, Swift, Lorenzo Wright (via trade), Kelvin Cato ( via trade), there are many options they can take in aquiring front court help. A player the calieber of Wright will not be in the free agent market for as cheap a price as some big men might be. I think they made a great choice only other selection that would have helped the team more at that point might have been Gerald Green or Granger. However, Green athletic as he may be is not as good a shooter as Wright who shot 45% from three point range last season, and as a high schooler is not a sure thing. Big ups for the Nets in making a good first round selection in this years draft. I would not be dissappointed if I were a Nets fan right now Wright was projected to go to the Magic at eleven, so to get him at 15 is a good deal. Not only that, but with Jason Kidd 100% next season, and Vince Carter regaining his confidence in taking the ball to the basket, and not relying on his jumper as much. This will give the Nets a player who can provide a big perimeter threat when the defense surround VC when he is driving.
I didnt like this pick at all for NJ, and I felt that they needed to go with height in this draft..they have enough wingmen in Jefferson and Carter, but they need some inside presence...Krstic has, so far, shown he can play in this league, and will be a nice player at the 5 spot...therefore, I think they shouldve gone with Granger, Warrick or even Simien...they need some frontcourt depth...
The Nets got really unlucky because I didn't expect both May and Ike to be taken by their pick. Wright is a good player, but not a good pick for the Nets because they have VC and RJ.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting DragonKid:</div><div class="quote_post">But.. Diogu and Sean May are still undersized... why we would draft him if they are available for us.</div> If you've seen them play in the college level, then you can see why they can very well handle themselves against bigger PF's. Graham, Granger, and Warrick would have some difficulty doing so.
Well I dont think Granger is going to really have that hard of a time adjusting cause unlike Warrick he can step out to the perimeter, consistently, so that makes his vesatilty of being able to play the 3/4 more true. And you put him on a team like the Pacers where he will be on the floor with either Artest or Oneal(dependiong on the sub-patterns) almost all the time, he really fits in well because he is playing alongside good defensive forwards, so he can take the easier forward to guard from the opposing team.

PF, we will find them in FA pool...SAR & MARSHALL & SWIFT..

Rod took the best player available...I'm not sure. I might have had Joey Graham or Danny Granger ahead of Wright... I wouldn't have passed on Warrick though. If we had gotten Warrick and signed a veteran PF like Shareef or Donyell, I think that would've been the perfect mix of athletiticism and consistency. If we needed defense we could replace the vet with Warrick and he would've blocked shots and ran the floor for fast break off the bench. It was unfortunate, but Wright is one of the best scorers in the NCAA and has the potential to be a 15 a night guy off the bench. He reminds me of a young Michael Finley, but not as athletic (though he does get up just fine). His defense will need work but a major upgrade over Rodney Buford.
