http://www.startribune.com/stories/503/5481091.html I don't know how I feel about this. As of right now, I feel that it was a screw up. I don't know about the pool or any others available, but given his history (past and recent for what I hear), the guy is an ailing headcase. We've had some luck in the past in taking chances (Randy Moss, Eddie Griffin), but we've also had alot of mistakes that lead to nothing (look at some of our drafts in the NBA and that RB for the Vikings who later went to Dallas and attempted suicide). This guy has shown some OFFENSIVE (He's not even a described as a complete player) prowess, but even if you weigh out the negatives and positives, it doesn't look good. I almost would have rather found out this guy was good via some other team because it looks like too high a gamble for our 1st rounder. LEt's see..........Offensive game (+).....Lacks defense (which has shown to win championships), suffers from physical ailments, has been a cancer in the locker room in college (-, -, -). I've never seen him play, but all of that makes it look like a bad deal.
Well you could of gone with Graham, Wright, Green or Granger but McCants is a solid pick. He's a great fit with KG but he can flat out shoot and he's an offensive machine. I'm not sure if you most of you know this, but he was the best offensive player in the NBA last season. Although you guys might want something different, like defense are all around games (Granger/Green), this isn't a horrible pick. McCants can flat out score, and that's what you need with Cassell aging and Spree gone.
Mccants is a big offensive player and should be used great with KG on the floor. In his last year at North Carolina he only took 11 shots a game to be effective at the offensive end, and I would expect him to put the same ammount of shots a game up in Minnesota with KG on the court. Mccants is a great fit in Minnesota and will turn out to be one of the best offensive players in the draft the question is, should they have picked him over Danny Granger, Gerald Green, Joey Graham, and Antoine Wright. I would say Mccants fits better in the T'Wolves system than those players because he can be effective on the offensive end without taking many shots. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
I dont have any doubts that this was the best available man. The Wolves front-office for once made good decision, McCants is the best fit for this team, and I can see doing great things with KG. I could also tell that if McCants was taken 13th, we would've gotten Sean May, which I would have been really happy with too, but I think that this young high-powered offensive guard will fit in great on the team. Oh, and if you want to talk about Minnesota headcases, what about Onterrio Smith? The guys from Sacramento and I've met him several times. He wont even be playing next season, Moss never did anything that bad.
Anyone else listen to K Fan last night???? They were saying there was a rumor that we could of traded Sammy to Memphis for Jason Willison and the 19th pick(Hakim Warrick) I wish we would of pulled this trade off if it was really out there. Cause I like McCants but Love the D of Warrick.
I'm very positive about this pick. People critisize McCants's defensive ability and his height. He will make a great Shooting Guard/Small Forward in the leauge. I feel that this is in no way a gamble. With McCants teaming up with Garnett only good things are to come. The Timberwolves just need to get rid of the Negatives, like Spreewell.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Banks:</div><div class="quote_post">Well you could of gone with Graham, Wright, Green or Granger but McCants is a solid pick. He seemed to be a little off this draft lol, " With the 3rd pick in the 2005 NBA draft the Utah jazz select.......(5 second pause).... Deron Williams from the University of Illinois" and " With the 4th pick in the <font color="Red">2004</font> NBA draft the New Orleans Hornets select Chris Paul from Wake Forest University."
I would have been much more happier with a player like Danny Granger, who I am very surprised fell as far as he did. I didnt even think Granger would be available to us at the time. I was thinking that maybe Wright, Graham, or even Warrick would have been a nice pick. I know McCants is a good offensive player, but there were guys available that we would have looked at.
its not a bad pick but its not a great pick either...McCants is explosive offensively but there are so many other questions about his game...I dont think he's starting material but I do think he'll be a rotation player who can come in and give you instant offense...I honestly dont see much difference between him and Szczerbiak, except that Szczerbiak is a tad better shooter just as McCants is a tad better athetically...neither one can play defense or is interested in passing...I would've liked Francisco Garcia and Julius Hodge much better for the Wolves...
As much as I like McCants there were better players left on the board like Antione Wright. But the pick wasn't a bad pick like the 7th pick by the raptors. It just wasn't a great pick.

McCants is a great offensive player. We need defense on the team, but I'm sure McCants will become better at defense with time. With both McCants and KG on the floor we will have a very tough offense to stop, and while defense is needed to win game you also must be able to score, so I think this is an over all good pic.

With some time Mccants has potential to be a guy that can have a couple deflections a game because of, like I said his long arms and athletic ability. Also if you guys are trying to make the argument that the T'Wolves should have drafted Green because of Mccants' defensive or lack there of, I would have to burst your bubble but Green doesn't have the greatest defensive in the world either. In fact I would put my money on Mccants to be a better defender early in his career because of his experience playing with some of the NCAA's best.
