Do you think that we should trade Mike James now that we have Head? If so, who could we get for James? Maybe we could package some expiring contracts and get a star.
I say yes. It seems that the Rockets drafted Head to be apart of the Yao/Tmac future. And I dont think the Rockets will be able to resign him when his cotract is up.
I dont think so...I think James and Head would be a dynamic backcourt duo off the bench...they could come in and completely change the tempo of the game...Head is a nice shooter who can create and distribute, while James is more of a scorer who thrives in transition...they complement each other nicely...I dont think trading James is the answer, but I do believe Wesley and Sura might not see another game in a Rockets uniform...
I too rather see James stay rather than Wes and Sura. But I dont see alot of teams interested in them. Do you guys think Jon Barry will be back? We can still resign him and he played very well for us last year. Aslong as the Rockets take steps forward Im all for it.
Julio, I dont see Barry staying now that Head is on board...I dont think James will be starting, so I think we'll make a deal that lands us a starting PG...James is more suited as an offensive spark off the bench...with that said, where would you give Barry minutes with a bench backcourt that consists of James and Head? I love Barry just as much as the next fan, but I'm not seeing where he fits into our plans...
We couldn't possibly trade away Sura unless we are sure we have a starting PG. Head and James aren't the type of PG we need to start. Sura is the only player in the current roster who can start at the point.

James along with Tmac and Yao are untouchable in my eyes (when it comes to trading)...............we still need a PF with some height and I have a feeling that either sura or wesley might be gone before the start of the season....and chances are Charlie Ward won't even be on the roster (Thank God!!!).....I would love to bring barry back, but like a poster said earlier, I really don't see how he would fit in with Head here now...................We also need to try to bring Deke and Padgett back imo.
If Sura and Ward are gone, who is our starting PG? Our record isn't to thrilling when Mike James starts at PG.
I think that the Rockets should hold onto James. Sura and Wesley are both older, and make more money. James and Head isn't a bad duo at the point. If the Rockets can trade Sura and/or Wesley for a true starting PG (unlikely) or a more legit 2 guard, James is fine as their starter at the point. And Head adds solid depth at both backcourt positions.
I think the rockets should be banging on memphis's door. They have so many players that want out b/c of fratello and a lot of them fill needs on the rockets. It would be hard to get memphis to agree on it but I would love to see Wesley and maybe an expiring contract for Bonzi Wells. Then I would also try to package sura in a trade to get a PF. With mid level I would sign Stoudamire or Antonio Daniels.
Mike James is good, but I dont see him having a place on this team with Head. James is also not a youngster; he is 29, so don't tell me he is a a part of our future because of his age. James is a good contributor to the rockets, but we have need to fill. With Head in our team we do not lose much by trading away James. Another thing: Damon Jones has declined the option to return to Miami. I find that a surprise. I think he would fit in better than James. I say we should snatch him if we have enough $$$ after signing a PF. That is unless we trade for one. Once again, I don't see James staying with us.
The Damon Jones thing suprised me too and I had the same thought. How well do you think it would work starting Jones and using Head as a backup for him and T-mac?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Shooter:</div><div class="quote_post">I think that if Ward is healthy, he's also a capable starting guard as well...</div> lol. I guess we'll never agree on this, but I'd rather have Cythia Cooper as my back up than washed up Charlie Ward. Atleast Cythia can somewhat create her own shot. When looking at the West, the PG position is so critical. My question to you is, since we all know that Sura is not the fastest guy, why would we bring somebody 20 times slower of the bench to relieve him. Talk about a change in pace. If the Rockets want to be more of a fast break team, they need speed and rebounding. I really don't understand why they would draft a PG, when you know we need some size at PF/C, and since athletic bigmen are so crucial to winning a championship they days (ex:Spurs, Pistions, Pheonix) I would think it would be a given to draft a bigman. But I guess Van Gundy likes the idea of playing a 6'4 Weatherspoon at the Center postion.
I really can't say whether James will be back. I wouldn't be suprised to see Ward and Sura gone next season and some more speed and youth brought in, who that may be we'll just have to see. On a PG level, I would like to see Rafer Alston in a Rockets uniform. He puts close to the same if not better numbers in almost all areas than Ward, Sura, Wesley and James plus he's got the youth and athleticism taht we seem to be looking for.
All of you'll are gassin up Head like he's gonna be an immediate contributor, for all we know he could be terrible (hope he won't be, but there's always a possibility)....then we'd really be up s#!% creek....we should keep james, 29 isn't that old and he should still be able to contribute the next 5 or 6 years.......trust me it would be a dumb decision if we let james go.....I think I'll start a keep Mike James petition.
James won't be much more than a backup in his time with the Rockets, so I think we should bite on any chance of trading him for a legit starting point guard. I'm a big fan of both Sura and Wesley and I think that we should keep them. However, both of them would be expandable if we can get a deal to land a legit starter. Head is a rookie, yes, but we can't work on the basis of him being a scrub. If we draft him, we should look to having him as part of the rotation and shaping the roster with him included in any plans. Until he bombs, we shouldn't think otherwise. Spanoulis would also be a strong possibility of joining the team this summer, so I would believe that the point guard position is set. I'm maybe the only one who wasn't a Barry fan. He didn't play too much defense, wasn't really a consistent three point shooter, and tried to do too much on many occasions. I'd be happier if we used his money to sign a Demarr Johnson. Rockfan06, I don't get why you're always criticizing JVG. You're also always getting on Weatherspoon and Ward. You like to say that Van Gundy would rather have Weatherspoon backing up Yao, but the truth is that Weatherspoon wasn't even part of the rotation before Howard was injured. Ward, meanwhile, has been a much-maligned player, but he is our steadiest ballhandler and the least turnover-prone. Let him have one more chance.
James might be the back up, but down the strectch he is most likely to be in the games, that's why I think we should keep him
I believe that James should be untouchable as well...I love his speed and his ability to create his own shot...in most of our playoff games this year, he was clutch and made some huge shots...no, he shouldnt be a starter but I definitely would want him finishing games for us...I'm still salivating over the defensive ability of a James/Head backcourt...Its not essential that James should go...We have many other tradeable pieces, such as Wesley, Weatherspoon or (although I'd hate to see him leave too) Sura...this team does not need a wholesale change, it just needs to add a few pieces...re-sign Mutombo, trade/sign for a starting PG and trade/sign for a legit PF who can share minutes with Howard...if we're keeping Howard, I still think either Walker or Swift should be our options at PF, since I see Abdur-Rahim as a Howard clone...so, if anything else, sign-and-trade for Walker and use our MLE on a starting PG such as Antonio Daniels, Damon Jones or Earl Watson...I would prefer Daniels...but James should not be traded, and there are more than enough minutes available for him AND Head to be seeing time in the backcourt...
