I like that pick for Seattle. He is an athletic big man, who can replace Jerome James in a few years, if he decides to leave Seattle.
It's amazing how everyone believes this is going to be a great pick when absolutely no one has seen him play. I am very hopeful that Petro becomes a better Big Game James. But for me to go on the record now and say that it is going to happen is a bit presumptious. I trust Rick Sund and David Pendergraft b/c we have had recent success in the drafts. But I'm very cautious about presuming how someone who I've never seen is going to project in seasons to come. I'd at least like to see them in the summer league before that. I think Bobby Swift will be a good pro eventually. He has very good footwork, good hands, a soft touch, and he competes. Whether he becomes good in a Sonics uniform is debateable, but I think he'll get there from what his improvements during the season. After I see Petro in the summer league I'll have a better idea how far along he is. Off the subject, Bremerton Marvin Williams will go down as the biggest bust in this season's draft. It's amazing how everyone is projecting to be an NBA superstar when nothing that he did at Carolina suggested that he was a college star. He is a good player w/ good skills. He does nothing great, doesn't have a true position, and is not a freakish athlete. Plus he is going to a team who has stockpiled small forwards and has no one who can help him get high percentage shots. I don't think that anyone watching North Carolina this season was running home telling their friends that Marvin Williams is going to change the game. After a few "experts" deemed him the second coming of Christ, his stock went completely through the roof. Milwaukee made the right decision drafting Bogut #1. He may not have "superstar potential" but he is a hell of a lot more accomplished and "NBA" ready than Marvin Williams. As I've said many times in this forums, make your own assessments and do not get caught up in the hype. Marvin Williams isn't the answer to any of the Hawks problems.
Marvin Williams was drafted on potential. He's just one year removed from high school where he would have been a lottery pick as well. The Hawks picking him is of course questionable because it didn't fill a need... I don't understand though how you refuse to pass judgment on Johan Petro when you automatically deem Marvin Williams as a bust. Marvin Williams got little playing time on the NCAA level... so what? He's a high school player with a year of National Championship experience. He has size, he has athleticism unlike your claims that he doesn't, the lack of a position you mentioned can also be seen as versatility because he is capable of playing a plethora of positions, he has a pro body, and has more upside of anyone in the draft. To each his own, but I can't believe that you are writing Marvin off already...he has the bad luck of playing for the Atlanta Hawks but he has everything you would look for in a pro player... and he's only 19.
Yeah it is a foul, but im just saying hes pretty athletic for a big. Iron, where can u view summer league games?..Besides NBA TV..i really wanna see Swift, ect.. in the Summer League.

I think we all know big Johan has some pretty impressive physical gifts for a seven footer, especially given he's still a teenager.

I came on to post that video link, and was beaten to the punch. He travels in that, but the raw athleticism and exposiveness is what excites me.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Roland Hood:</div><div class="quote_post">Whoa. Jerome who??</div> I could counter that with a video of Jerome posterizing Theo Ratliff a couple of years ago, but I won't
Damn, you called my bluff I had one, but it went the same way as my videos of Rashard's tommohawk tip-jam against the Mavs, and D-Mase's tip jam on the Kings: my old hard drive.
Rashards tip slam on the mavs was crazy. I get chills just thinkimking about it. Thats A nice video of Petro I knew he was athletic but i didn't know he was THAT athletic.
