<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The telephone call to the Nets' officials came on the eve of a workout with Andrew Bynum, the word out of the 7-foot high school kid's representatives that he was canceling his workout with the team. What? Rod Thorn wondered. This kid is canceling on us? As it turned out, the Nets were choosing No. 15, and Bynum had been promised that he would be picked higher in the NBA draft.

And once you heard Bynum on television late Tuesday night, telling the world that he's going to "bring back the sky hook" to the Lakers after they picked him at No. 10, all you could do was laugh. Andrew Bynum is closer to Lew Katz in the low post than he is Lew Alcindor. They didn't make him a millionaire in Los Angeles for the faintest of accomplishment in his life, except growing to 7-foot and 300 pounds before his 18th birthday.

Odds are, the Nets never would've picked Bynum. Thorn and his general manager, Ed Stefanski, don't do baby-sitting. Bynum wasn't a good pick at No. 10, nor No. 15.

Bynum is the perfect example of what the NBA draft is now: One big con between the agents and the teams, between the kids and themselves. If you have a flawed, undeveloped player, get him in the draft soon, and get him picked before he exposes the truth about himself. Bynum, out of St. Joseph of Metuchen, is living proof.</div>

I think he will be eating a huge platter of crow, he thinks this kid is going no where...I think under Phil, this kid could mature faster than people think. I don't see this kid having problems with his size and athleticism. He will mature as a player, and as long as he doesn't get mixed in the wrong crowd, he shouldn't have a problem being a good player.

Heard Bynum was an honors student so he might be more mature than some think...and maybe the reason why other teams passed on Bynum was because he skipped so many draft workouts...guess we'll have to wait and see
