<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">So much for all those mock drafts. Former Florida State shooting guard Von Wafer, who was benched frequently late last season and didn't get invited to the NBA's pre-draft camp, was drafted in the second round on Tuesday by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 39th pick overall. Wafer left FSU following a turbulent sophomore season. "I feel like right now that the Lakers got a good bargain," Wafer told the Tallahassee Democrat. "You know when you get a good bargain you never know if the product is going to hold up. I'm going to try to make this a steal for the Los Angeles Lakers." Wafer led FSU with 12.5 points per game last season but was suspended twice early in the season and benched often late in the season. He averaged just 15 minutes in his last five games for the Seminoles, who finished 12-19 and tied for last in the ACC. Wafer, 6-foot-5, shot 39.6 percent from 3-point range last season to rank 10th in the conference. Wafer's father, Ray P. Johnson, said: "I think what motivated him most was everybody was saying he didn't have a snowball's chance" in the draft. Wafer worked out for the Lakers over the weekend. "People said a lot of bad things about me on the Internet," Wafer said. "I used that as motivation. I'm just really happy right now. But happiness lasts tonight. I'll be in the gym three times tomorrow. It's time to get back to working hard. People are feeding their kids and taking care of their families with this. So I'm going to have to take a different approach to basketball - take a different approach to my business and the way I conduct myself on the whole."</div> Source
