<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In trying to figure out the equation that is Paul Pierce [news] and his future in Boston, one must first make full divestment of the notion that this is about addition and subtraction. As far as the Celtics are concerned, Pierce is more a logarithm. They are seeking either the proper exponent to maximize his career in Green or the most equal rate of return in trade. And considering the latter prospects aren't nearly to the Celtic liking right about now, it may be time to pull off the highway and pump a few gallons of reality into the discussion. To wit: If Danny Ainge simply wanted Pierce gone, he'd probably be a Clipper now. Western sources confirm that the Clippers called offering Corey Maggette and more for the Celtic captain, but that the Celts turned away before the talk ever got warm. (Ainge had no comment yesterday.) That evidence and other internal discussions currently have the odds in favor of the Celtics taking another shot with Pierce, though it's a developing story that may need hourly updates as the offseason unfolds. </div> Source
I'd rather have Maggette and another Clipper for Pierce, Maggette seems to just have more of a desire and a passion for the game. You can see this whenever we play against the Clippers, Maggette always seems like he's hungry to be the best where Pierce is just out there playing. Would be a good move in my opinion.
I saw that too I was thinking that is a pretty even trade but yeah the Clips should add 1 more player.
Ainge might be calling the Clippers back after he realizes that he won't get a better offer for Pierce.
I disagree, I think Pierce will get PLENTY of offers from several teams around the NBA. The Dallas Mavericks who are likely waiving Michael Finley. The Portland Trailblazers who have already discussed with Boston. The Hornets and The Raptors already had talks with Boston about a 3-Team trade. Minnesota would like to have Paul Pierce. Sacramento perhaps? There's plenty of possible places that Pierce could land and I'm sure each offer will likely have it's own perks. I just don't see how Maggette is a better player than Pierce. He hasn't proven much playing for The Clippers and he at least has a low post BEAST in Elton Brand to play off of. I personally would rather have Pierce, that's saying alot because I've wanted the guy out of town for a few years now.
Portland, New Orleans, Dallas, Minnesota, and Toronto? Good for them, but they aren't going to come up with a better deal than one that includes Maggette. Unless of course it included Bosh, Nowitzki, or Garnett. Which is ludicrous.
Well, there was another Clipper, and it was reportedly Chris Wilcox who was offered(he of recent gun-charge fame) so maybe its not such a bad thing to have passed on this one. I liked this story because it proved that ainge is patient and willing to wait. As it said; if he just wanted Pierce to be gone, he would be. And its silly to trade him now, because thanks to the smear job that is going on in Boston right now, his value couldn't be much lower. And I disagree with you, Thrilla, cause Ainge probably <u>can</u> get a better offer for Pierce if he holds. Wait until the trading deadline when some team who doesn't mind taking on a large contract (hello, Dallas) and thinks they are one piece away from a championship comes calling. Or until a team suffers a de-railing injury and needs a player now, forgetting about the future. Wait until Pierce is driving to the lane, absorbing punishment on a nightly basis and getting to the free throw line, putting up 20+ ppg in December when an opposing coach looks and says "damn, that kid is good. And I KNOW he'll play in my system, even if he won't play in Doc's, because I am that good of a coach." (People sometimes forget just how big some of these coach's egoes are.) Now isn't the time for a rush to judgement, not before Gomes, Green, Jefferson, West, Allen and Perk have even had a chance to play in the summer league and show either what they can do or if they have improved. I don't doubt that Pierce is on his way out, and frankly I'm not that heartbroken if he is, because we weren't winning with him and if he doesn't want to be here then I don't want him here. But you don't hire the first guy you talk to, you don't buy the first car you test drive and you NEVER take the first deal you are offered...

Pierce deserves more value than Maggette, but people only remember what they saw last. If Ainge is set on trading Pierce this offseason, he better call the Clippers back. If he's open to letting him stay a while, then he'll definitely get a lot more value (assuming Pierce doesn't do anything really stupid again).
Let me just say now that Ainges has made it clear to the league that he and the owners want Paul pierce off the team there is no way they will get equal value for him on the trade circuit. This would probably be the best trade for the Celtics to prevent a back lash from Pierce I think this would be a trade that Paul would accept just as well and leave without making any sort of ? I wont play for them? comment. He is a California native so a return home would probably be something he would enjoy. In this trade if I were the Celtics I would only do it if I got Maggette and Wilcox. Wilcox can probably play a little center, and that would open up the possibility of trading Blount, because you then have a capable starter to replace him, and also still allows you to develop Al Jefferson as a power forward. The Celtics next year could have a totally different lineup then last season in terms of their main players. A lineup that would impress me would be... PG- Delonte West, Marcus Banks SG- Corey Maggette, Tony Allen SF- Gerald Green, Ricky Davis, Ryan Gomes PF- Al Jefferson, Raef Lafrenze C- Chris Wilcox, Kendrick Perkins Add in a player they would get from trading Blount, and they have a young talented lineup that could make some noise, and if they bring back Walker they have one of the deepest front lines in the league at the Power Forward and Small Forward slots. If I were the Celtics owner though I would not be so quick to trade Paul Pierce. He made a bad move coming out with the bandage all around his jaw, but it was all in the heat of the moment. He is a perennial all stars, and is a big time player come clutch time.

This deal got shut down because the celtics are NOT going to trade Pierce just for the sake of getting rid of him. It would be borderline insanity to do so with such an important player on the team.
Don't see Pierce going anywhere unless it's for equal or better value, honestly. As much as I would like to see Pierce go, Ainge isn't going to take another step back when his team seems so promising already. I say unless we're getting an elite point guard or a solid front court player, there's no need to trade Paul Pierce.
