Who else could have been the perfect fit for The Green, besides Gerald Green, the high school phenom out of Texas. The 6-8 forward averaged 33.0 points, 12.0 boards and 7.0 assists his senior year at Gulf Shores Academy before the Celtics made him the 18th overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft. On Wednesday the Celtics introduced Green and 50th overall pick Ryan Gomes to Boston at a press conference in Waltham. After the press conference Celtics Beat had a chance to sit down with Green and find out some things you might not have known.</div>

Green has a good head on his shoulders and has a good attitude. He's going to make a great Celtic.

Haha, don't worry about it. While will still on the subject, we might as well talk about Ryan Gomes' 10 questions.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With the last name Green, Gerald Green seems like the perfect fit, but Ryan Gomes also fits in for the Celtics, but for another reason. Gomes is a local product, having played his high school ball in Connecticut and college basketball at Providence College. Gomes led the Big East in scoring as a senior, averaging 23.2 points per game in Big East play. He was a First Team All-American as a junior, and finished his time as a Friar as the school's all-time leading scorer. On Wednesday the Celtics introduced Gomes and 18th overall pick Gerald Green to Boston at a press conference in Waltham. After the press conference, Celtics Beat had a chance to sit down with Gomes and find out some things you might not have known.

Celtics Beat: Well Ryan, how does it feel to be a Celtic?

Ryan Gomes: Obviously I was hoping to go in the first round, but after I slipped out I was hoping to end up in Boston and be close to my family, so it's a good fit.

Celtics Beat: Where did you watch the draft?

Gomes: Me and my family got one of those conference rooms in a hotel near our house in Connecticut. We ate before the draft and had family and friends over to watch.

Celtics Beat: What were your feelings as the draft unfolded?

Gomes: Well, I was disappointed at first and actually stopped watching in the second round and went for a walk to clear my head. But, like I said, I was very happy to end up with the Celtics. They had me up for workouts twice and when a team brings you back it usually means they have interest in you.

Celtics Beat: You were a power forward you're first few years in college, and then stepped out to play more of a small forward your senior year. Where do you fit in with the Celtics?

Gomes: I really think I'm a three in the NBA, but a bigger three that can post up and rebound. There are lot of small forwards in the NBA that play in the paint, post up and rebound and I think that's where I fit in.

Celtics Beat: What was your reaction to the press conference today?

Gomes: I'm a little more used to that stuff than Gerald is, since I played four years in college, but at the same time that was a little overwhelming. It was pretty cool that so many of them came up from Providence to cover this. That made me feel good.

Celtics Beat: What was it like picking out a jersey number with all of those retired numbers?

Gomes: Wow that was rough. I wore #3 in college and that's gone, so at first I went with #4, and that's what they had on the jersey today. But, I think I might go with Ainge's #44. I asked him if I could wear it and he said I could. So, I think I might change to that.

Celtics Beat: Sometimes players have trouble playing so close to their hometown, are worried about that at all?

Gomes: No, not at all. My family and I are really close, and we're very excited that they'll be able to come up and see games and that we'll all be close together. It should be great.

Celtics Beat: Paul Pierce is one of those guys who is famous for using the teams that passed on him in the draft as motivation. Is that something you think might motivate you?

Gomes: Definitely, It's not how you start your career but how you finish. I'm glad that I went in the top 50 picks, but at the same time I was hoping to go higher. I want to end up having a better career than some of the guys that went ahead of me and make those teams wish they drafted me.

Celtics Beat: Did you get a chance to spend some time with Gerald this morning and get to know him?

Gomes: Not really, we shook hands and said hello, but haven't really had a chance to talk. He seems like a great guy and we're teammates now. We have the same goal in mind and that's to help the Celtics win. I'm sure we'll get a chance to know each other better in summer league.

Celtics Beat: Are you worried about being a Yankees fan in Boston?

Gomes: I am a Yankees fan, but hopefully the fans in Boston won't hold that against me. I'm thinking that if I play hard for the Celtics and contribute then maybe I'll get away with it. </div>
