"Oh yes, for sure," he said Friday during a break in the Basketball Without Borders outreach program. "When I went home to Atlanta for the summer, I only took three suits out of my closet. That means that all of my clothes are in Houston, and I really want to go back there." The 39-year-old center joined the Rockets last season to be a practice partner and mentor to Yao Ming. Mutombo played more than 15 minutes a night in 80 games, averaging four points and 3.5 rebounds and was everything the Rockets had wanted, also averaging 1.26 blocked shots. Mutombo is a seven-time NBA All-Star and four-time Defensive Player of the Year. "I hope everything will work out quick and soon in Houston so I can put all of this behind me," the Rockets' free agent said. "I've been working out already to get myself ready to come back. "I told a friend yesterday that I'm tired of changing uniforms. I just want to go and play where I can be accepted in Houston, where I can play the few years I have left and finish up by backing up Yao Ming or in whatever kind of role I can have. I would like to fulfill my dream and finish up the game and be happy to walk away. "Last season was a great experience. I think Yao learned a lot from me, and I learned a lot from him and we were able to grow. If there would be a chance for us to win a championship together, it would be fabulous." =================================== I think we should definitely have Deke back...he wont demand once and I do think yao learned a lot about him...I definitely think hes more than capable of being our backup center, especially if Yao comes back in better shape and more rested...
Out of all of our free agents I think Deke is the most important player to bring back..........I would love to see Dikembe back in rockets red next season.
Mutombo won't cost a lot of money to bring back, and he is still one of the top backup centers in the league. I don't see any reason why the team won't offer him a new contract.
Mutombo has been great for us. He really likesh ouston too, so he might go for the league minimum. He has so much $$$ from New Jersey that he shouldn't care about money anymore.
Mutumbo has really been a great player off the bench for the rockets. And he would come at a low price.
"The 39-year-old center" how old exactly is motumbo, he hasn't been in the league as long as shaq and i've heard this past season him being 36, then 38, now 39, he'll be 42 by the start of next season...
Dikembe could be anywhere from 38 to 45. Many claim that his official age had been doctored when he came into the league. I don't think that matters though. Mutombo is still one of the better centers in the league today and is doing a lot better than many twenty-two year olds.
Mutombo does his job well and it's not that he's tonnes better than Yao or anything it's because he focused on being the best backup he could and you couldn't ask anything more, Mutombo is a solid player and it would be nice to see him win a championship before he leaves the game.
yeah i wanna see mutumbo wagging his fingers at players for a few more seasons yet. he's a great backup for the rockets even if he is getting old.
Yeah this is probaly the last stop for Mutumbo but I would like to see him play a couple more seasons and help out Yao on the D side of the ball.
