<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Knicks desperately need something like Jeter's rookie year to happen. They need the head coach, whether it's Larry Brown, Bill Laimbeer or Herb Williams, to have a Torre-like effect on the locker room. They need Channing Frye to develop the way Knicks draft picks usually don't. They need Quentin Richardson to be as tough and nasty in the post as he swears he can be. Or they need Nate Robinson to fill the Garden with a feel-good athletic energy it hasn't seen for the longest time. I don't think the Knicks will hire Larry Brown, not this year, anyway. Next summer might bring a healthier, friskier Brown and a hometown franchise a step closer to the playoffs. I think Quentin Richardson is what he is, a fairly good shooting guard who is more in love with the 3-pointer than he's letting on. And I think Channing Frye is a nice Pac-10 center who isn't likely to emerge from many of the Australian Rules Football scrums that define the Eastern Conference. More than anything, I think Nate Robinson might end up being the Knicks' most important player from here to contention. New Yorkers, especially the kids, are going to fall head over heels for this guy. He will lead the league in getting mistaken for a ballboy, and yet, at a listed 5-9 and an actual 5-7, he could be the talent to fill the Garden with a buzz it hasn't felt since Pat Riley and Jeff Van Gundy ran their fast break out of town. Robinson was the 21st pick in the draft. At 21, you usually don't find a difference maker. You find a guy who will eventually become a starter, a contributor, one of those good guys to have on your team.</div> Source
Don't we have Marbury? Robinson is exciting, but its not going to be a jolt coming off the bench playing 8 minutes at most, due the fact, Marbury/Crawford are holding down the point guard posiiton I would trade Nate to a team who needs a PG (Clevand) plus a fillerand get a guy like Gooden, Big Z or Varejao in here Anyway, this is how the minutes should go PG - Marbury - 40 mins Crawford - 8 SG - Crawford - 30 mins Quiten Richardson 18 SF - Quiten Richardson - 20 mins - Ariza/TT 20 mins PF - Sweetney - 30 mins Jerome Williams/Rose 18 mins C - Fyre - 24 mins Taylor/Lee - 24 mins Yeh, we're deep in the perimeter, but we're seriousl undersized in the front court. I don't even know how guys like Lee/Taylor/Tim Thomas/Rose/Williams wil establish roles on this team, too many PF's on this team, I'm fine with our perimeter players, I just wanna change the front court, add more physical rebounding beast, not make our team so finnese
I think the knicks should trade him along with penny to a team who can give us a great rebounder and pure heart for winning,CENTER because I agreed with most of the guys in the meaning that Robinson won't get too many minutes in the game and now that we aquired BIG Q. less minutes he will get.
hmm.. i think ya'll should maybe do a sign and trade.. stromile swift and bonzi or jamesposey for crawford and penny maybe one of ur powerforwards or whoever else works out this would give memphis a new point gaurd so they could make a move to trade jason williams this would give new york a possible starter at small forward and power forward even though stromile is another undersized guy it seems like you guys want him.. he is still most likely a step up from any of your other power forwards.. I dont know all the cap rules but what would new york fans think if yall got this trade?
Swift is a lazy player, not such a great rebounder, just a great athelete. We don't really need Bonzi Wells, we have Richardson Keep Penny, his contract is expiring, just don't play him alot of minutes.
Ahhh....Crawford isnt that great as a point guard even in a backup role, that is why Chicago cared nothing about resigning him last year because he doesnt have the decision making skills to be a point guard. And he cant guard most two guards in this league as evident by the fact the Marbury a lackluster defender himself had to cover most two guards last year as the Knicks tried to hide Crawford defensively. Off topic for a moment I think that the fact the Knicks didnt add any stronger defensive parts to the perimeter will be a killer for them agian next season as well, they will be stuck in a situation simialr to last year, where Marbury is trying to cover two guards to hide Crawford. Any Back on topic.. all this talk like Crawford is obligated to playing some point guard minutes is crazy to me when he isnt that good at it...you can easily switch or hand over his point guard minutes to Nate Robinson who can at times playin the backcourt with Marbury depending on matchups.....because that is the way you use a guy like Nate Robinson according to matchups..........you wouldnt put him in the game against a guy like Payton or Cassell who are clearly going to use their post up skills against him. But you will use him against a speed lineup that the opposing team puts on the floor cause it allows you to matchup with their quickness. I think you see Robinson playing along side Marbury probably as much as you see him backing up Marbury....cause as of right now Marbury is your strongest backcourt defender(as sad as that is) so you need him to hide Robinson a bit...so I can easily see the Knicks siding Nate Robinson in for 8-12 minutes per game. As far as trading Robinson for the type of players your talking about Jose, hmmm...I doubt it. Nate Robinson similar to Earl Boykins needs exactly the right system to fit into...people forget that Boykins hoped around this league for a while(New Jersey, Golden State etc...). And not because he wasnt talented because it was the right fit for him...if your not going to play an uptempo style like Denver does then a guy like Earl Boykins is going to be a liablity not an asset. In a slow tempo game guys like Boykins, & Robinson have red dots on their backs so to speak because of the way teams try to exploit their size. But the way you counter it is by pushing the ball like Denver does and a guy like Boykins' crushes your transition defense. But alot of teams dont push the ball like a Denver, so they wont take a chance oin a guy like Boykins or Robinson cause it doesnt fit. And if the Knicks dont make the conserted efffort to get stops and run next year, Nate Robinson wont fit in.....and he will probably end up on the Earl Boykins type journey to find a home.
Crawford is a great fit at point guard; it does happen to be his natural position the Knicks just put him at shooting guard because they had no one else decent to play there. The reason why they let Crawford go in Chicago was because they already had a point guard in Kirk Hinrich. Many of the times, Crawford?s decision making has to do with the fact he wants to do too much, in my opinion. I think he feels obligated to score because outside of him and Marbury, no one else really can. And of course Crawford can?t really play shooting guards ? he?s a point guard! Usually he has a height disadvantage and/or a weight disadvantage. The Knicks are playing with two shooting guards in their starting lineup which is partly the reason why they are struggling so much. Isiah is doing all in his power to try and convert the Knicks into a high-tempo fastbreak team that?s why he drafted athletic guys like David Lee, Channing Frye and Nate Robinson and traded Kurt Thomas for Q and is looking to trade players like Mike Sweetney. Robinson will be a perfect fit off the bench to give us a spark and will institute instant running and gunning. In addition, despite his size, he is a pretty good defender and his toughness, athleticism, quickness, and explosiveness, make up for his lack of it. With Robinson, the Knicks get a change; they get that exciting crowd favorite that they haven?t had in awhile who will be bigger than Jerome. While that might be considered minor or even irrelevant, restoring the excitement of the Garden is one of the things that we need to do and adding Nate is a step in doing so.
Ahhh......even before Hinrich came to the Bulls two seasons ago the Bulls had no faith in Crawford as a point guard. And you can make up all the excuses but the reason Crawford isnt a Bull anymore is his style, Scott Skiles was not hieght on his game therefore he was gone. And there are alot of people around the league that are not faund of Crawford's game. For one he isnt a point guard nor a two guard. And has poor basketball decision making skills, period. His shot selection and decision making will slow down the development of the likes of Frye and Sweetney, mark my words. The wont get the touches they need to develop as long as you have him and Marbury in the backcourt together. And Isiah is trying his best to put a running group on the floor but he is missing one key element defense. You cant run if you cant get stops unless you have Steve Nash who pushes the ball on made shots by the opponent better then any other point guard in this league including Jason Kidd(key word made shots), that allows phoenix to create open court opportunites when there isnt any. But for a team like the knicks the only way they will be come strong in the fastbreak area is by becoming strong defensively. please tell me who a perimeter of Marbury/Crawford and Richardson are stoping? opponents will penetrate all day, leaving that frontcourt exposed to pickup plenty of fouls on Knick bigs.
Crawford played great PG for us in 04 - 05, he pushed the ball up the court, creating exciting fast break players Marbury doesn't do consistantly Crawford can play PG when Marbury is the on the best, and do it very good, thats why I felt like we wasted the 21th pick
Robinson can come off the bench and make the game alot faster. hes the fastest guy on the team in my book.
