<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Buyout may keep Vazquez from Magic Sports Ticker 7/2/2005 5:53:39 PM MALAGA, Spain (Ticker) - Spanish center Fran Vazquez admitted he does not know where he will be playing next season despite being picked 11th overall by Orlando Magic in this week's NBA draft. The big man has two years remaining on his contract with Unicaja Malaga. The deal includes a buyout clause worth nearly $600,000 that is proving to be a sticking point. NBA teams may pay up to just $350,000 to buy out contracts Malaga president Rafael Fernandez already has stated that while the club is proud of Vazquez's achievements, the player will have to pay the remainder of the buyout if he wants to leave. "I have got my ideas clear, but I have two more years on my contract with Unicaja and I have to try and negotiate things," Vazquez said. "I have to negotiate with Unicaja. I insist I have a 50 percent chance of leaving and a 50 percent chance of staying, but my agent is taking care of all that." If Vazquez does decide to leave, Spanish coach Mario Pesquera is faced with the prospect of being without two key players as he prepares for September's European Championships.</div> http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story.asp?id=129436 I think we should be able to buyout the contract for $350,000 but I don't like the fact that Franny is saying he only has a 50% chance of playing with us next year. Hopefully we get it all worked out and bring Franny to Orlando.
Man they draft this dude higher then what he should have been drafted and now he isn't even going to play? Granger, Warrick, and Green are some players that I think might have been a better selection at #11.

He was expected to go anywhere from 9-15, so not sure what your talking about in that regard. I agree that Orlando shouldn't have picked him with their pick though.

In my opinion he was picked way to high when players like Warrick, Granger, and Gerald Green were on the board.

I agree Granger and Green would've been better choices (not too sure about Warrick), but Vazquez didn't go too high, he went in the range he was known/supposed to go.
Green is to much of a project were developing Dwight for our future, Granger and Graham are Sfs and were stacked at Sf with Hill and Turk. We needed either A Pf or Sg, there was: Vasquez,Wright,May,McCants. Unavailable were Frye, Webster. So Vasquez was right for us he should play this year why would you pass up on a dream of playing in the NBA for playing in the Euros another 2 years?

To me, if Vazquez wasn't sure he was going to be able to come over and contribute immediately, like most NBA teams were going to want of him, he shouldn't have bothered going draft. And seriously, if that buyout is stopping them, that's pathetic. Pax shelled out $3.4 mill for Noc's buyout last summer. That buyout is nothing compared to his.
If you think of the #11 draft pick salary(not sure exact numbers, but I believe it's near 1.5 million) what is 300,000 gonna do? You are still gonna be a millionaire or close and you will still be living your dream to be in the NBA. I don't see why he won't be at our training camp this year. I just think that Frankenstein(got the nickname for MagicMadness boards) got so involved with the last week that he forgot how long and tedious the buyout situation would be and he was just frusterated by it and said that. I bet it's more like 90/10 that he will be in Orlando next year.

Fran is overrated and I dont think the magic need him if they get a quality center or PF (depending on what howard plays next year) in the free agent market but they did waste a pick

I guess you are experienced in bad picks. How can Fran be overrated if nobody likes him? I am the only person on the Magic forum(Flaboy as well) that is at least giving him a chance. I don't see how he could possibly be overrated if everyone bashes him. Have you seen him play?
You should say international players are overrated like the ESPN guys are . Fran hasnt been talked about much to be overrated. We cant get much in Pf or Center with the money the Magic have for FAs. Is Sean May overrated? He did win the National Title but look at CLattner he was one of Dukes best players and in the NBA he scored alot but thats all you can say. So some players are not fit to play in the NBA the Magic saw Fran play with players who played in the NBA already and was fitting in. Don't judge a book by its cover!
Ok, it is official now, I am jumping onto the Franny Bandwagon! I am going to give him a chance and I am going to support the pick the Magic made. Let's Go Franny!
