Howard became the first high school player to go directly from high school (Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy) to the NBA and start every game. Not even Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant or LeBron James can say that.

He averaged a double-double -- 12 points and 10 rebounds per game -- and played 32.6 minutes per night.

Nurturing their first high school pick in franchise history, the Magic stuck to their plan and allowed Howard to play through his rookie mistakes. They also assigned assistant coach Clifford Ray to tutor him.

But when the Magic hired Brian Hill as their new coach, Ray -- a former NBA center and big-man guru -- was not re-signed.

"I was a little upset," Howard said. "I knew it had nothing to do with Coach Hill. He went with coaches he knew. I think we have some great coaches to work with.

"I love Cliff, and I know I can always call him for support."</div>

Most of the article is about how Howard expects to fit into the team next season, but I was wondering if anyone thought possibly letting Cliff go was a bad move? Now that we see how good his relationship with Dwight was.

No letting him go was for the best Coach Hill wanted guys he knew to coach and help out Dwight. How can u not trust a guy who coached Shaq?

I think Brian Hill knows what he is doing. Howard Sr. said before that he would hire Ray to be Dwight's personal trainer anyways so I don't think it is a big issue. If Dwight is getting training one on one from Ray and also getting help from the new coach the Magic hired, that is even better.
