I definitely would be interested in him, but the only problem is he's young and is probably going to get a big contract considering his potential and how much he's improved. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rockets, Swift set to talk By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle The Rockets' interest in landing young, athletic frontcourt help will focus on perhaps the youngest, most athletic free agent available when Stromile Swift visits the team today. Swift, 25, will meet with Rockets officials today, an NBA source said Tuesday. Swift's agent, Andy Miller, said last week that Swift could be visiting Houston either today or Thursday, but Miller added that there were other teams pursuing the forward and that Swift had not told him of a preference. Today's visit is considered an early part of the process.</div> Source It really seems like there's some depth in the rumors that Swift is interested in Houston...
If it ends up in a position where Swift becomes the sole player worth signing left on the free agent market, then I'd agree. If Marshall, Abdur-Rahim, Andersen and Chandler are still on the board though and are all willing to sign for the MLE, then I'd hate the move.
is chandler FA? if he is i wouldnt mind having him with us more so then swift, but when i see swift play he loves dunking the hell out of people, and i think that he might lack on the defensive end but thats just what i think, his mind is on scoring mainly iono how well he does defensivley
I really hope we can get Bobby Simmons. Its an incredible long shot since he's young, athletic, and has shown this past season that he can put points and rebounds on the board. His stock has definitely risen up and will probably be demanding a lot of money from teams that are trying to acquire him. We might not be able to offer money to him, but we can offer him a starting spot, minutes, and a chance to win. Other than that, its pretty much all we can use to bargain with. I'm hoping Clippers do a sign and trade with him and we can just trade them our expiring contracts so they can make a good run at elite players. Simmons was the third option on the Clippers, which he will be here, and can do the dirty work as well. Even though it isn't going to happen, I can dream can't I? Cheen0, Yes Chandler is a free agent, but the Bulls have already reported that their going to do what it takes to keep their young core together. Over course, we can always offer a bigger contract to him, but I just don't feel like overpaying a player that doesn't do too much on the offensive end. I mean, if you're going to overpay to get Chandler, its just not worth it- I'd stick with guys like Andersen that won't kill our salary cap.
Yes, Chandler is a free agent. I would take him too. Although I dont believe the Rockets have talked to Chandler or anything. He'd be exactly what the Rockets need in the end.
Here's more Stromile Swift news: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rockets appeal to Swift Forward believes he'd be a nice fit if price is right By JONATHAN FEIGEN For a while, Stromile Swift offered every sentiment the Rockets would have hoped he held, complete with several declarations that "I hope everything works out." He spoke of the Rockets' strengths and his own. He talked about his admiration for Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming and mentioned his childhood hero, Hakeem Olajuwon. Then he came to the bottom line, and that was, as the Rockets feared, the bottom line. Swift, a free-agent power forward who arrived in Houston on Wednesday for meetings with Rockets officials today, sounded interested in jumping to the Rockets. But with the Rockets over the salary cap and unable to offer more than the mid-level exception ? which is expected to start at about $5 million for the first season of a contract ? Swift said he would have to consider the difference in his asking price and the Rockets' projected offer.</div> Source
Wow. The Rockets seem serious with him. Let's just say this, if Swift really <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He spoke of the Rockets' strengths and his own. If he'd take a pay cut, then we should go for him. He is young so Idon't htink he would. Therefore, we shouldn't go for him unless he is our last option.
This is the same guy who said that he cares about money. I doubt he'd take pay cuts. Normally, those who do take paycuts are veterans who view this as their last chance to win championships. This will be Swift's first big payday and that's also a reason I think he'll eventually sign with Atlanta.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I'd stick with guys like Andersen that won't kill our salary cap.</div> Im pretty sure i read in an article that Chris Andersen was sticking with the Hornets...why idk
I doubt that Andersen would want to stay with New Orleans if they sign Swift and Andersen gets other offers. With Brown, Swift, and possibly Magloire all ahead of him in the rotation, it would be wiser for Andersen to move to greener pastures.
Why havent they tried talking to donyell marshall? i'd think he would sign with us for the MLE. he's also a veteran and would fit well with the rockets. although i know that carrol dawson is looking for a defensive minded player...i'm not sure marshall is but i know he has range and can put up numbers in boards.

However, Philadelphia has a lot of leverage on him since they are his hometown team and are willing to offer him a decent contract to allow him to finish out his career in Philadelphia. Besides, I'm pretty sure Dawson is going after Marshall as well I think. Its just that Rockets are going after Stromile Swift a lot harder (or so it seems) and a lot of the attention has gone to Stromile Swift in the news.

i smell a "hater" in the house! oh well, im backkkk...lol anyway, sorry to disappoint you Kwame Brown hopefulls, LOL....read: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...5071201558.html Also, about Haslem: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2106742
^ You got me excited there, but it doesnt mean we have swift locked up. The teams we need to watch are new york, new orleans, atlanta, seattle, and new jersey i think. Swift should be real close to a desicion right now, so i think we should find out in this week. New York has agreed with jerome james, That was one of the main teams pursuing swift, so the odds are really with us now.
