<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Eddie Basden tried not to let a draft-night snub ruin his party. But it took awhile for his positive attitude to rub off on the guests.

?Everybody thinks their son or grandson is going in the first round, especially with the good season I had,? Basden said. ?So they were all razzed up about the situation. I was telling them, ?You?ve got to understand it may not go the way you all want, so don?t have a big fiesta.??

Basden did invite some friends and relatives to his home in Maryland on draft night. The 6-foot-5 guard from Charlotte was named Conference USA player of the year and defensive player of the year last season, but he went unselected on June 28.

No worries. The Bulls were quickly on the phone with an invitation to play for their summer-league team in Las Vegas.

?I think (the guests) were a lot more disappointed than me, because I still knew my dream wasn?t done right there,? Basden said. ?I don?t think they understood that.?

Now Basden believes he has found a great situation.

General manager John Paxson repeatedly has expressed the need for a tall, defensive-minded guard. There aren?t many available on the free-agent market, so Basden basically has a solo tryout for the job, beginning today when the Bulls open summer-league play with a playoff rematch against Washington at 9 p.m. on the UNLV campus.</div>

Yep Basden was the Bulls target all along in the draft they were said to be trying to trade in to get him. Thankfully for them he went undrafted there is no question in my mind he will be a Bull next season. He is a defensive guard something that is rare to find in this league, and he can also put some points up on the board. Do not quote me on this, but I see him becoming sort of a Bruce Bowen or Trenton Hassel on our team. A guy who will be able to guard some of the better players in the league with him and Andre guarding people the Bulls will really be able to slow up opposing teams when they need to. Got to give it up for Paxson targeting a guy without having a draft pick, and still being able to get him to your summer league, and probably sign him to your team.

I like basden a lot cuz of the way he hustles and plays defense and has an all around game. hes a good fit for chicago too cuz hes another young guy and hes like duhon where he isnt gonna be a star or probly a starter but he'll give em quality minutes and tough defense and thats valuable for a young team like the bulls.

Yea, I like Basden too. He could develop into a Bruce Bowen type player. He just need to really put the work in on his jumpshot b/c it is not very good at all.

I would want him on my team to be a defensive stopper... definatly.

Basden would be a great addition to the bulls. hes a shooting guard that isnt undersized which is something we need.
