<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Any Validity To This Marbury/Hawks Trade Rumor? 6th July, 2005 - 3:34 pm Patrick Austin/RealGM - Chad Ford of ESPN is reporting that the Knicks and Hawks are in discussions about a blockbuster trade involving Stephon Marbury and Al Harrington. Mr. Ford has been known to dream up scenerios that do not pan out, so there may not be much validity to it. Though let?s say, for discussions sake, that talks were actually occurring. Would this be the right move for us to make? Would Stephon Marbury accept being dealt to Atlanta? What kind of impact would this have on our cap space? These are all important questions that I?ll try to answer. The deal would include Al Harrington, Tony Delk, and Jason Collier heading to New York in exchange for Marbury. If this went down, our cap space would not be affected. We?d still have over twenty million dollars to spend on free agents.</div> Source
No thanks. anyone else notice that everywhere stephon goes, losing follows? with him we'd probally win 6 games,

The Hawks already lose a lot so you might as well try it out. Plus, this would open up a spot for Marvin Williams and would give you a great offensive player in Marbury. Sounds good to me. PG- Stephon Marbury SG- Josh Childress SF- Marvin Williams PF- Josh Smith C- Obina Ekezie or Jason Collier
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Swish15:</div><div class="quote_post"> PG- Stephon Marbury SG- Josh Childress SF- Marvin Williams PF- Josh Smith C- Jason Collier</div> Atlanta waived Obina Ekezie...
yeah, i guess... i kinda overreacted.... i thought about it and now i wouldn't mind this trade, even though i LOVE al's game.... however, i'd MUCH rather get a PG in free agency. the more i watch video of earl watson, the more i like him. he's young too. larry hughes can play PG too, and that would be awesome to sign him, since he's as good a marbury and is younger. antonio daniels wouldn't be bad either...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting hipokrat_x(LV):</div><div class="quote_post">Atlanta waived Obina Ekezie...</div> Oh ok my bad. I also forgot to mention that they would still have the 20 mil cap space so they could bring a big name center like Eddy Curry.
Great trade for the Hawks. Stephon Marbury would be a good addition, and who cares about the losing thing, the Hawks lose enough. PG - Stephon Marbury SG - Josh Childress SF - Josh Smith PF - Marvin Williams C - Stromile Swift That's a solid Eastern contending team.
This would be an awesome trade for the Hawks and will save Billy Knight his job, Marbury would help them out a lot and make them into a not a half bad team.

As much as i hate Marbury i think it would be a mistake for Knicks.Thats like just givin him away but for Atlanta that is a good deal. I wonder if Isiah is stupid enough to do it
I also like this deal for both teams, but I don't think there's any validity to it. Normally you would think unloading a contract the size of Marbury's would be a priority for a team, but I think the Knicks don't have a problem being over the salary cap. I would think they would want more out of this deal, like Diaw or a 2nd round pick. With Al Harrington being a free agent, there are no guarantees he'd re-sign with the Knicks, so the only benefit the Knicks get out of the deal is cap flexibility. Without Marbury on the books it does open up the possibility of going after LeBron James in 2007-08. If Isiah feels he can pitch James to play in New York for less contract money, but much more money outside of basketball, then this makes even more sense for the Knicks. A trio of Lebron James - Jamal Crawford - Quentin Richardson is a young, intriguing lineup. Now for the Hawks they benefit from this deal despite having to take on Marbury's contract. For starters they fill their need a PG and can have Salim Stoudemire come off the bench for points. Adding Marbury also helps sell tickets because he was a star and huge draw when he played at Georgia Tech. With Harrington gone, the logjam at SF/PF is gone and Marvin Williams can start right away alongside Josh Smith. The Hawks also still have money to spend on a Center and Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Kwame Brown, or Stromile Swift might be more convinced to sign on if they see Marbury aboard. Despite all the money the Hawks have to offer, they have not been able to spend it on any star players. This deal might be their chance to land two stars. PG - Stephon Marbury SG - Josh Childress SF - Josh Smith PF - Marvin Williams C - Zydrunas Ilgauskas This is a formidable starting 5 and the Hawks will contend for a playoff spot in the East.
contend for a spot? with that lineup, they'd be a lock for a spot. and i think starbury might like playing there, what with him throwing alley-oops to josh smith all the time...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting lessthanjake:</div><div class="quote_post">contend for a spot? with that lineup, they'd be a lock for a spot. and i think starbury might like playing there, what with him throwing alley-oops to josh smith all the time...</div> I don't think they are a lock yet, that's 3 new starters on the team and you just don't know how well everyone will get along. Also it really depends on how the bench turns out, because the team will need to add more size and ideally some veterans. Last year the Cavs just missed the playoffs with LeBron and Ilgauskas, and I think that Cav team had just as much talent than the lineup above.
yeah, that's true. although our bench wouldn't be so bad, what with salim, tony delk, and boris diaw (who i am expecting big things from this year...). but yeah i agree with the chemestry bit, since things don't always fit for teams example: timberwolves. and as for the equal talent bit, i dont know about that. our potential 5 would have 5 very talented players: 2 all-stars, and 3 potential stars. cleveland's lineup basically only had lebron and Z, and sometimes gooden when he decided to show up. (jeff mclinnis doesn't count)
If The Knicks make this deal than David Stern and The NBA should establish another franchise in New York because support for "The Knickerbockers" will be nonexistent. Are you serious? Stephon Marbury is the only "for sure" player on that roster. Quentin Richardson? Solid, not a star. Frye? Not proven on this level. Sweetney? Yet to prove himself. Tim Thomas? The Black, Little Less Talented Keith Van Horn. I mean he's all they have. He's the only person putting asses in the seats. He's the only person selling jerseys. Isiah Thomas isn't going to cash that in for Al Harrington. The only person buying his jerseys and buying tickets on his account is his mother, THAT'S IT. The most absurd trade rumor I've heard all year...
^It's complete foolishness, man. Isiah said he never talked to Atlanta. Let's just say this is another one of Chad Ford's schemes.
