Billy King told Dee Lynam last night that these rumors are ridiculous and that these are false. Reported on CSN this morning.
I didn't like this trade in the first place. We can't afford to be trading big men for guards at this point. Plus Marbury and Iverson both need the ball to play their games. Not to mention a backcourt of AI and Marbury would be a nightmare for the 76ers on defense. AI is good at reading the passing lanes and getting steal but both will struggle as a backcourt because both of them would be severely undersized at two guards. But on the other hand this trade could have turned into something great, the 76ers would have to have a new center signed from free agency but still a core of Webber, Iverson, and Marbury could have been impressive. But at the end of the day the bad things out way the good.
Here's another thing: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> According to an ESPN report, the Knicks were set to trade Stephon Marbury to the 76ers in a deal that involved Seton Hall product Samuel Dalembert. But that's news to Isiah Thomas. The Knicks president and general manager, out in Las Vegas for his club's Summer League action, was not amused and was quick to deny the report. "That is so far from the truth and I'm ashamed for (the media that they) even have to ask me that because there is absolutely no truth to it at all ... I don't even know why we have to talk about it." A native of Brooklyn, Marbury was acquired by the Knicks in a trade with Phoenix on Jan. 4, 2004 and has been a fan-favorite ever since. During his nine-year career, he has averaged 20.6 points and 8.3 assists. "He and I and all of New York City know where I stand with him and where he stands with me," Thomas continued. Told by a reporter that other general managers around the league have said they've been told Marbury is available, Thomas challenged anyone spreading the rumors to fess up. "Tell the GM -- whoever the GM is -- to put his name on it, put the deal on it, and tell me when he spoke to me. I keep a running log of everybody I talk to, every deal I discuss, and everything that I talk about player-wise, and whoever the GM or so-called source or whoever it is, put his name on it."</div>

considering it was a CHAD FORD rumour in the first place, i dont why anyone is even discussing it.........Ford is a complete BS`er and ESPN is the worst sports source on the net
Yeah it makes alot of sense for both teams, the Knicks can get a young big man with the recent draft of Channing Frye and the Sixers really need a PG. Does Chad Ford even follow basketball?

Marbury, Iverson, Thomas, and Webber all have enormous contracts with two alone can put any team over the cap. With four, we'd be in the Knicks position- which isn't too good. I understand Mashburns it big too, but he's retiring soon anyway so it doesn't really matter. Still, good thing this turned out to be BS.
