<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">By Nick Prevenas 7/7/05 Sources tell NBADraft.net that the Cleveland Cavaliers will sign Washington Wizards' free agent guard Larry Hughes. The deal he will likely sign is reportedly worth an estimated $12 million a year and will run through the 2010 season. The deal won't become official until July 22, the first day of free agency. After losing out on Michael Redd and Ray Allen (both of whom resigned with their original teams), the Cavs have landed their shooting guard and LeBron James' running mate. Hughes fills a massive hole for a team in need of perimeter scoring and defense.</div> The Wizards would probably have to sign maybe Korver, Rush or Sprewell if they can't get Hughes back which would really hurt the team. The Cavs need money to resign Ilgauskis, but the Cavs also can't pass out on an oppurtunity like this. What do you guys think? Link
Wow.I dont know how good of a fit Hughes is for 12 mill a year.Im sure he'll be good for the team but they REALLY needed to be able to spend that money on Allen,Redd,or Johnson.I think Mobley even would have been better.Better shooter for Lebron to dish it to and Mobley could have been had for cheaper.Maybe im wrong...
Hughes would be a great pickup for 8 Million but not 12 million. But this is coming from NBADraft.net so let's not jump the gun just yet.
I hope Cleveland does something, because the Lebron lovers are running out of excuses of why he's never made the playoffs. If Cleveland doesn't make the playoffs again, then I guess that DOESN'T make Lebron the greatest of all time. lol
12 Million? That's overpaying him by a good 4-5 million, and he doesn't even bring their greatest need, which is a perimeter threat.
12 mill a year is a tad too much for Hughes and weren`t the Cavs in search of a deep 3-point shooter? But it is early in the free agent market so we`ll see what other moves Cleveland makes. Hughes may not be exactly what the Cavs need, but his great defense brings a great upgrade for the team, nevertheless.
Hughes is what Cleveland needs BECAUSE he takes a whole lot of pressure off of Lebron... the manchild. I mean seriously, if they dind't sign Hughes this off season would've been horrible for them. Redd is gone, Allen is gone, Mobley is basically gone, Johnson is gone... who were they gonna start? Newble again? Pffft...
This is a great signing for the Cavaliers. Hughes is a good swingman that can contribute at the Point Guard or Shooting Guard position. This will help LeBron greatly. IMO, they are overpaying Hughes. They should have offered $8-9 million so they could have room to re-sign Illgauskas and go after a pure shooter.
they had to pay that much to get hughes, otherwise wash would have signed him. hughes is a great player, one of my favs, and they should still have enough space to re-sign Big Z cuz aren't they like 28 mil under cap? so only like 12 is gone...cavs are going to be even more fun to watch now, i can't believe hughes is gone from wash, i'm a cavs fan now thanks to hughes not lebron..that's not something you hear everyday... <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rockfan06:</div><div class="quote_post">I hope Cleveland does something, because the Lebron lovers are running out of excuses of why he's never made the playoffs. Now they need to sign Damon Jones and they'll be set.Any point guard thats a 3 point threat would be sufficient.
Damon Jones - Larry Hughes - LeBron James - Eddy Curry - Zyndrunas Ilgauskas -Signing jones would be a great thing also, i think they sohuld try to get curry if they have enough left.
Im still waiting to hear why this is a great pick up for the Cavs. Larry Hughes for 12 million? please. I trashed signing Redd to a max contract. This isnt any different. He does not deserve it. Hughes has been with 4 teams in 5 years. There is a reason for that. He is an okay player not a 12 million a year player. Hughes had one very good year which was last then he did an abra cadabra in the playoffs. And to make matters worse, the Cavs still dont have a shooter. Once you sign Z to a contract, all your money will be tied up for years with nothing to show for it. 1st round playoffs then out. Like other members said maybe a 7-8 million a year contract would have been a lot better on the eyes and ears. Again thank Adonal Foyle (40mil, 5yrs) and Brian Cardinal (36mil, 6 yrs) for free agent prices the way they are. They set the bar last because when you look at it, Hughes is 4 million a year better than Foyle. Look at it that way.
I think this was stupid on the cavs part..If they couldn't get Redd or Allen, then they should of not took any1..Because next year, they would of had a bigger salary cap..
Well seeing as how they got Donyell Marshall and a switch up point guard I think the Cavs are sure to make the playoffs this year. Larry can hit the open three, bronbron is developing his outside shot and Mr. Marshall is a consistent threat from the outside. As far as I'm concerned they've filled their holes and now they just need to get in sync.
