<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">COSTA MESA, Calif. -- The Raptors may have to purchase a few sections of tickets when they visit Madison Square Garden next year. If New York-born point guard Omar Cook continues to impress Raptors brass, the team may have three players from the Big Apple on its opening-night roster. "Omar can definitely figure in here," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said after watching Cook and the team's summer leaguers practice yesterday. "We're not going to go into the season with just two point guards like we did last year. We're going to have three. Omar is someone we'll definitely consider because we were very pleased with how he played and handled himself last year (after he signed a 10-day contract April 9)." The other New Yorkers on the Raptors are starting point guard Rafer Alston and first-round pick Charlie Villanueva. Cook's fate probably will be determined by other players. Veteran point guard Alvin Williams underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee last year and nobody knows if he will be able to return to the NBA. </div> Source
Hmmm.. well from the 10-day contract we signed him to last season, Cook looked solid - with a pass first mentality. I'm curious to see what happens to Alvin though, and the status of Ukic could dictate whether or not Cook remains on our roster. Btw, Cook is wearing jersey #2 in the summer league games; Ukic took #1 lol.
I'm excited to see how CV / JG / Ukic does in the summer leagues. Tonight's game versus Dallas starts at 5:30 pm EST.
It's good that Sam's decided to go with three point guards this year. It creates more competition and will hopefully bring the best out in Rafer. However, I remember how Mitchell gave similar praise to Roger Mason Jr, so hopefully he'll follow throught with his plan this year and give Cook some minutes this season.
It's nice to see Mitchell noticing Cook. He played good during his 10 day contract with us. Especially the game against (Cleveland?) where he broke out and led our team. I'm excited to see the summer league go under way.

I wanted him to beat out Milt Palacio for the point guard spot. Anyway, it's good to see that Mitchell is high on Cook. He's a pretty good player and I think he can really become a solid pro in a few more years.
^Yea, I wnated Mason to bea tpalacio out too. but its pleasing, I barely saw cooks games, but form the ones I saw, he did very good. I hope we sign Cook, or buyout Ukic. I also hope Alvin gets better ASAP. I would like to see him and how he is.
