A rumor was spreading around the league that Wayne Embry, recently elevated to a new role as consultant to the team president, had final say over the Raptors' picks. It isn't true. Everyone from GM Rob Babcock to coach Sam Mitchell liked the idea of taking UConn forward Charlie Villanueva at No. 7 (as well as Joey Graham at No. 16 and point guard Roko Ukic in the second round). The Raptors believe that Villanueva became a more mature and committed player last season, traits that Mitchell intends to develop while using Villanueva's rebounding and offensive versatility alongside mainstay forward Chris Bosh.</div>

The part about the Raptors is at the end. The whole article gives a good a sense of how the front office is working with each other. I thought the paragraph describing Babcock and Mitchell's relationship last year was interesting.

Very interesting Babs and Mitchell's relationship last year... hard to see how Mitchell didn't get fired.

I didn't think anything liek that ever happened... so much dilema behind the scenes at raptors!!
