I take it Ellis doesn't pass the ball much and he's turnover prone. The next Stevie Francis? He's probably pressing though... I'm guessing there's no point in getting any of the guaranteed guys hurt (Bee-drinch, Z, and Ike). I think what we need to find is some ready insurance for defensive small forward, though. I'm hoping Jawad Williams comes through. At least if our 3rd point guard becomes either Dunleavy or Zarko, we still have Pietrus to guard the point guard spot, and Jrich to guard the 2 on defense. Cheaney can provide some minutes in this emergency, but it would be nice to have another 3 to guard the big, fast 6'8 guards or the 6'9 small forwards.
It looks like Monta Ellis was trying to outduel Telfair in the game. He should get a taste of reality when he plays in the NBDL next year.
Yeah he ain't ready obviously. I think he's a good playmaker, but he's going to shoot a high volume of shots a la Gilbert Arenas or Stevie Francis if he can't get by on his athleticism. The difference is those guys are both quick and strong and have absolutely wonderful ballhandling skills. Right now Ellis posesses the body of Devin Harris or Steve Blake and he doesn't have an nba handle just yet. Not that it would matter because a little body bump and the guy might get pushed off the ball. He probably can't post up Telfair yet.
Yeah, 4-16, that's worse than Iverson. Volume shooters can be effective, if you have a solid front line built for offensive rebounds and getting those shooters open lanes. Unfortunately, it's not good for the Warriors. Diogu did put up a very nice line though for the game.
Yeah, we had like, no centers in that game. No wonder we were dominated on the boards. Also, no creative open court point guards. But that lineup sure tried out a lot of guards and forwards. It was such a small summer league team. I've had cocktail shrimps bigger than that lineup. I'm also guessing Monta Ellis played the two guard since he's probably the best perimeter scorer on the team. At at 6'3, 176 lbs and a combo guard that played the 2 in high school, the guy better eat his wheaties and hit them weights.
Good to see Diogu did well. I would love to see some highlights and see how everyone got their points...
<font color="Navy">Here is Coach Turner's take on Monta's first game. You can't really look at a stat sheet and gauge how good or bad a player played.</font> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Monta Ellis began the game with the swagger of a veteran. He attacked the basket off the dribble and showed an impressive ability to separate from defenders. When the Portland defense went under the screen against him on a Pick and Roll, he calmly stepped back and showed his easy NBA shooting range. He turned it over twice as a result of being too aggressive with penetration, but the talent that helped him average 38 ppg last year was clear. Perhaps more impressive was Monta's defensive knack. He was matched up with Portland's seventh pick, Martell Webster, and with Sebastian Telfair, and Monta was a disruptive factor with his ability to avoid screens and his quick hands. In addition, he followed our defensive game plan perfectly, showing more understanding than you would expect from a player straight out of high school. The scouts in attendance were abuzz about his performance, as was a prominent national writer Peter Vescey!</div>

1-9 FT? Biedrins desperately needs to get that fixed. I know they're just articles but its getting me excited about diogu and ellis.

I think that with Foyle not living up to his expecatations, Biedrins is going to be starting quite some more next year and one big problem he will need to fix are his fouls. Biedrins tends to foul a lot and will need to get that solved for him to log big minutes as a starter or sixth man. That will be more troubling than free throws because if he fouls to much, then he won't even need to bother with his free throws
