Okay the Bucks and Cavs handed out some big contracts recently. The Bucks gave Michael Redd 6 years and a whopping $90 mil. Not feeling they'd spent quite enough, they also gave Bobby Simmons 5 years and $47 mil. Meanwhile the Cavs and Larry Hughes inked a deal for 5 years and $65-70 mil. Wow. That's a LOT of money for three guys who haven't done a whole lot in this league besides having great years last year (well, Redd's done it for two years). So my question is should Warrior fans look at this as the glass being half full or haf empty? The glass is half full: Wow, Simmons got basically the same deal as Murphy, minus a year. Hughes will make more per year than Richardson. Yeah Foyle and Fisher's deals are still really bad, but the deals don't seem as bad as they did last month. Two developments over the last month make Fisher and Foyle's deals a lot easier to swallow: 1) The new CBA spreads the money the league takes in luxury tax penalties to all the teams equally, so now being over the luxury tax line isn't nearly as bad, and 2) these new deals show that teams are still just as fiscally irresponsible as they have been the past few years. Remember how scared some of us were that the new CBA would dramatically decrease contracts? Uh yeah...that hasn't happened so far. The glass is half empty: If these guys got that much, there's no way the Warriors are going to re-sign Dunleavy AND Pietrus without going way over the cap. New CBA controlling spending my Aunt Fanny... So which way do you guys look at it? I'm a glass is half full guy. For reasons...see above...
Jeez, I dunno which way I see it, Walk. But I do know Mullin is definitely looking a lot better now than before. Hopefully, the Hawks and Hornets will go crazy with that cap as well as the new CBA is a great control on spending, indeed. Let's hope the suckers out there don't drive up the price of our own free agents as well. Bench Pietrus if they have to so he's not so damn desirable to other teams. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> So my question is should Warrior fans look at this as the glass being half full or haf empty?</div> Okay I've reached my decision now... I'd say the glass is twice as big as it needs to be for now.

Wait...do you mean that things are just fine now, but there may or may not be problems down the line? If this is right, you now owe ME a cookie.

Then, I'll probably be breaking glasses or emptying glasses (of beer) knowing that went down. We must preserve the foreign legion (Zarko, Pietrus, Beedrinch). They freakin' rule, especially the guy with the worst hair of the bunch. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting wtwalker77:</div><div class="quote_post"> btw, we need to start up Warriors poetry corner again, that was the best thread ever.</div> For sure! Pessimisim about the Warriors is always good in limerick form
Simmons deal is huge, but it's not much different than some of the other MLE-type deals going around. As far as the poetry corner, I've got a few haiku flowing in me now: The New CBA Owners and players agree Victory for fans A quick offseason Biggest names sign fast for cash No luck for Warriors Davis the hero Will the Warriors see playoffs Only time will tell Warriors summer league Rookies scampering for spots Great chaos ensues
I think Hughes just based off last season alone is a much better player than Richardson. He is a slasher. He can take the ball to the basket with ease and a great handle. He also is a great on the ball defender nearly leading the league in steals. He always was that. When he was with the Warriors he literally could not put the ball in the bucket from the 3pt line. I hope he builds upon what he did last year with the cavs. At least Lebron is a player who makes others around him better. I hope he can do that for Hughes. If he plays like he did last year I think it is a great signing. If he plays like he did in his last year as a Warriors his contract is going to make Mullin look like a genious...
The problem with Hughes is his horrendous injury history. He averages about 60 games a year, or about 75% of a full season. He must have some heavy insurance on his contract. No doubt he's improved a lot, though. Especially his defense, which was surpringly solid. His offense worked better since he stopped forcing quite as much, though there are still a few mental lapses here and there. I think he saw a better chance with LeBron than with Arenas and Jamison. The Cavs will likely sign Ilgauskas after this.

From Ike Austin to Eddie Robinson to Shandon Anderson to Brian Cardinal to Hidayet Turkoglu to Rasho Nesterovic to Erick Dampier, history has shown repeatedly that signing a one year wonder to a huge contract is a very risky proposition. I'd bet either Hughes or Simmons proves to be a big disappointment with their new teams. I hope it isn't Hughes, because I really like the guy and I'm happy he got paid. I'm just saying it's a big risk. Oh, and speaking of Hughes, Zhone inspired me (Custodian, I can't do limmericks, they're your department): Hughes signs with Cleveland When will we see this headline: Arenas to Cavs!
I was just thinking that with Simmons getting signed I think that d-Mase is the odd man out. Sure he might usually be a sixth man, but after playing the whole year as a starter, I'm thinking he might be leaving soon. I think he would be very good in our lineup. Reece Gaines and D-Mase for Murphy +Dunleavy works very well for us and works with trade checker. Any one else in favor of that? I think that if Diogu works out well in the summer league and as does Taft, Diogu would start with Zarko and Taft backing him up. Not only does this bring in some of the same stuff that Murphy bought such as perimeter scoring and good rebounding, this allows Digou to bring in some defense, shots blocking, and post offense. This trade also opens more time for MP2 and closes the on-going debate; Pietrus or Dunleavy. Mason lets us run and will work very well with J-Rich and B-Diddy combining to make one of the more explosive line-ups around. Reece Gaines is filler and will be waived. As for Milwauke, they get a real SF that will help TJ get the ball around in Dunleavy and some perimeter offense off the bench. Murphy will give them a real PF to work with and he and Bogut if both live up to their potential will make a monster front-court. Murphy also gives them a real PF and the Bucks will be able to move Joe Smith to the bench to give them Dunleavy, Williams and Smith on the bench able to come in. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?</div> I'm totally not on board with this idea. first of all, why would the Warriors trade one log jam at sf for another? Especially when Mason is even more like Pietrus than Dunleavy. The only real difference between the two is that Mason doesn't play defense, which is exactly why people want to get rid of Dunleavy. And Gaines, where's he going to play?
