South Florida Sun-Sentinel - The Heat's interest in Antonio Daniels could lead to a meeting with the free-agent point guard soon, Michael Cunningham of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting.

Daniels confirmed to the Seattle Times Friday that the Heat, along with the Lakers and Jazz, has expressed interest in signing him. He told the newspaper it's likely he would visit with one of those teams next week.

The Heat is exploring other options at point guard with Damon Jones, the starter last season, on the market. The Heat still hopes to re-sign him to a multi-year contract.

A source said this week the Heat also is interested in free-agent guard Earl Watson, a reserve with Memphis the past two seasons.</div>

Of the two, I would much rather have Antonio Daniels because he is a bigger guard and can switch posistions easily with Dwyane. I wouldn't be dissapointed with either one though. I'm hopeful that we can land one of them. They both know how to play defense unlike Damon Jones, and they're better playmakers too.

As good as AD is, I think short term the best option for the Heat would be Damon Stoudemire. Still a very good shooter and is a much better point guard than Damon Jones Is. Stoudemire has also shown the abilty to at least create by himself by getting into the lane far better than Jones did.

Damon Stoudamire made $12,500,000 in 2005. [IMG]
The last year of a 7 year, $81 million deal. [IMG]

I wonder how much he will get now.

Got a feeling it won't be quite as much as his last contract [IMG]

I like the size of 6-4, 205 lbs. Antonio Daniels to Stoudamire 5-10, 174 lbs.
But Daniels shoots a dreadful 29% from the 3PT line.

Yeah but with Eddie Jones, Keyon Dooling and Rasual Butler all good shooters from behind the arc, we don't really need a long range shooter running the offense. Is it me or has Stoudemire's game become less and less of a threat to opposing teams. He is only two years older then Daniels but it seems like Stoudemire is slowing slipping out of his prime.

Stoudamire isn't exactly a good defender, and after seeing what DJ did last year on D, the Heat can't afford to sign a PG without much D and expect him to be the starter. I'd be for him to be the 6th man if we can can't land Watson or Daniels, but not the starter.
