Williams suggested he would speak his mind, and say something appropriate to the wayward soul in question.
For most NBA rookies, however, hypothesis and reality can be worlds apart.
Such likely is the case even for a top-three selection coming in with as much clout as will Williams, who reports today for training camp in advance of the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league that opens Friday at Salt Lake Community College.
That in mind, and in light of co-captain Raja Bell's decision earlier this month to orally accept a five-year contract offer from the Phoenix Suns, the question can be raised:
Who will step up to provide leadership for the Jazz in 2005-06?</div>

Nobody is asking me, but if they were, tell them that Williams had better skin er back a ways until he proves he's got something to sell.

Holding down the PG spot on any team doesn't carry with it the entitlement of being the leader by default. The PG's job is to run the offense. There are plenty of teams in the NBA whose leaders are not the PG. The Cavs are a good example.

You don't step in, particularly as a rookie, and declare youself a leader. Leaders aren't elected or appointed, they're "Born." No one ever really has to look for the leader. After a short period of time, everyone generally knows who he is.

The rest of the article in question is closer to being correct. Leaders lead by their presence, and by example, not with their lip. This kid has a long road ahead to prove himself worthy of being called a leader

I'd say Mr Williams is taking in too much territory. He gets mouthy with one of the vets, and he'll quickly get put in his place. I'm trying to envision him muscling up on Boozer, and I'm getting a clear picture on how that one would turn out.
