1) Linehan's system uses multiple backs 2) RW is a proven commodity @ RB 3) RW is a low risk to improve team 4) Nick has a restricted media policy & most questions will be to or about RW. Therefore, Saban will use Ricky as dare I say a "smoke screen"
Saban wants insurance for Brown, and a draft pick later on for RW. If ricky goes back to his 03 form saban might be able to get a 1st round pick for him.
Saban wants to make the team as good as possible and he feels with Ricky Williams getting 10 carries a game and Ronnie Brown getting 20 he can wear defenses down and win football games. Saban always liked to run the ball at LSU.
Can any of the DWO tell me what the current cap situation is in regard to Ricky's numbers? I don't think they can have two top backs if they have to pay both like two top backs. Its hard enough to have steak at every position, much less doubles at one position. Keeping them both this season is a possibility, but by next season, I think Ricky is traded.
if ricky is gonna get traded he is gonna get traded in the off-season because he only has one game to show his stuff before the trade deadline. And the good thing is when the panthers play the Dolphins ricky williams will be on a suspension

However, I don't think Steinberg will be happy with that and will want to negotiate something better for Williams, but Steinberg admitted that yesterday was not the day to discuss the contract. The Alex Smith signing hasn't made anything any easier for the Dolphins. The Dolphins simply can't afford to fall in line with the type of money Smith was given when trying to sign Ronnie Brown. It looks like a mess to me right now.
I think adding Ricky back to the team can only be a positive, Ronnie Brown will be the back for the Dolphins no doubt, but getting some mentoring from a great back like Ricky can only help Brown out, plus not having him get all banged up his first year is a good thing too. Ricky probably wont be around but for a year or two if that, it might produce a good player for Miami in a trade later as well.
Ricky will be happy sharing carries with Brown. That was the main reason why he left, is because he got way to many carries
Some seem to think that Lamar Gordon may be starting for the first 4 games if Brown doesn't get into camp soon, Ricky may even get more carries than Brown this year if something isn't done by the end of camp.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Bleedblk&gld)</div><div class='quotemain'>What ever people say. Ricky, when fully healthy, is the best back in the league.</div> Better than LT? No way...
I dont think Ricky Williams is gonna have that great of a year because 1. He will miss 4 games, and he will be battling with Ronnie Brown for the postion
hmmmm I wouldn't ever call him the best back in the league. Even when he ran for 1800 yards he still only averaged less than 4 yards a carry. Ahman Green's ran for over 1800 yards and had a 5 yard per carry average. So I would rate him in the Green area when he was who he was in the NFL.
