<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LAS VEGAS - Justin Reed is coming off a quiet rookie year, befitting his second-round draft status on a team that had three top-round picks and the fact he only managed to make his way into 23 regular-season games.

Even the closest Celtics followers - the ones in the FleetCenter - rarely got to see him play. Most of the time when Reed got in, the fans were trying to get out of the North Station parking garage.

All that could - and, according to Doc Rivers, should - change this season. Reed proved he could leap in the physical sense last year. Now he could well vault past some of his more renowned teammates on the depth chart. ``There's no given jobs on our team, so, yeah, he really does have a chance to get some real playing time,'' Rivers said. ``I would be surprised if you didn't see him this year.

``I think he has a great shot to play. I'd be surprised if he's not in the rotation. He's just got to keep working.''

While most of his previous NBA portfolio was giving Paul Pierce [news] problems in practice, Reed is showing his first season wasn't a waste. He's clearly gotten better and has looked more than solid in the Celts two wins in the Reebok Vegas Summer League.

Reed had 12 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes in the team's opener against the Clippers and 13 points, four boards, four assists and a bunch of good defense down the stretch in a close decision over Dallas.

``Justin didn't play last year, but he can really play the game,'' Rivers said. ``He's a really good athlete. His shot, as you can see, has gotten better. </div>

Pierce was lobbying for Reed to get more PT last year. I think that's the best endorsement you can get, considering that's the guy that usually plays against Pierce in most practices. He was definitely a steal in the draft last year. He could be a great role player in the years to come. Maybe even more.
