<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In what has become a spring and summer routine, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo is rumored to be a candidate for an NBA coaching job.

Izzo is thought to be among three candidates considered by the Seattle SuperSonics, the News Tribune of Tacoma, Wash., reported in Monday's editions, but a person close to Izzo said he isn't a candidate, at least for now.

Though Izzo had a recent conversation with Sonics general manager Rick Sund about former MSU players Alan Anderson and Mateen Cleaves and their chances of playing in the NBA summer league, Izzo did not talk to Sund about the coaching position, said a source familiar with the situation.

The Seattle job opened last week when Nate McMillan became coach of Portland.

"Coach Izzo has expressed no interest in the position," MSU sports information director Matt Larson said Monday.

News reports emerged based on Izzo's conversation with Sund and his friendship with Sonics owner Howard Schultz, a fellow Northern Michigan graduate.

Despite being linked to other jobs this spring, Izzo has not formally interviewed with any NBA teams.

Izzo is on a recruiting trip this week and was unavailable for comment.

The News Tribune reported that other Sonics candidates are Phoenix Suns assistant Marc Iavaroni and Sonics assistant Bob Weiss.</div>

I don't think we really need a college coach...I mean can you imagine Izzo telling Ray Allen that last off-balance 25 footer was a bad shot?

By all accounts he's a helluva coach, but I don't think a college guy is a good fit right now. Plus he'd surely demand more than we'd be willing to pay.
