<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As Shareef Abdur-Rahim continues to decide where he wants to play, the Nets have upped their pursuit of another free agent power forward.

Team officials are expected to meet today with the 6-foot-9 Stromile Swift, multiple league sources said.

Nets president Rod Thorn and general manager Ed Stefanski are watching their summer league team play in Las Vegas, which is where the meeting will be. Swift is an athletic shot-blocker, but he missed time this past season due to an irregular heartbeat.

Abdur-Rahim is the Nets' first choice, but Thorn has said they can't wait too long for him. Abdur-Rahim visited with Sacramento on Sunday and Monday, and may go to San Antonio or Miami before deciding.

Over the weekend, Aaron Goodwin, Abdur-Rahim's agent, said the Nets must perform a sign-and-trade with Portland and use their $4.9 million trade exception to get his client. Goodwin is seeking a six-year, $37.4 million deal, the maximum the Nets can give via the trade exception, which expires July 29.</div>

I'd rather give that 6 year $37 million deal to Swift. While Swift isn't as dynamic as SAR offensively, he's a better defender, and will give the Nets some actual shot blocking on the roster.

He's also a pretty good scorer himself, he can give anywhere from 15-18 PPG, and though not a great rebounder, is decent. Either way they will get a good player, and each guy brings different advantages.

Swift can run with Vince Jrich and Kidd better.

Smart move by Rod Thorn and the front office, we were sitting back to long waiting for Reef to give a answer while our backup plans went elsewhere....I think Shareef is still the 1st option on the front offices mind but just in case he decides he likes Miami or something like that better...we have to have our other plans in order. While Reef gives us more scoring..Swift gives us more frontcourt youth and athletism...Shareef and Swift bring to different things to the table. And I think depending on who we sign we will have to address our other front court needs accoringdly, I think if we sign Swift we are going to have to add another frontcourt guy who can maybe display some offensive skills a Lee Nailon type who can score off the bench and play both forward spots. But if we sign Shareef then I think we should maybe look at someone like Robert Traylor...he wont score as much...but he has the size and is willing to throw his wieght around down low.

if you guys can sign either one, or even both, you guys basically won the division. you all might be the phoenix suns of next year, with the high powered offense.
