The Wizards would be looking at the 6-foot-9, 32-year-old Marshall most likely with their $4.9 million mid-level exception. Marshall spent most of last season with the Toronto Raptors on the trading block, getting heavy interest from Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia. Those teams are still said to covet the 11-year veteran. However, the Wizards, who need help in the frontcourt -- especially if they deal forward Kwame Brown this summer -- are believed to be Marshall's top choice. </div> http://www.washtimes.com/sports/20050713-120512-9490r.htm
I'd love this signing. Marshall is a big man who can shoot the ball, if we get Marshall and Caron Butler (in the Kwame deal)...the sour taste of losing Hughes is gone because we can move Jamison down to his natural position. Caron proved that he could play the 2 when Kobe went down last season, so I'm not worried about that. He is also working on his ball handling skills this offseason. PG - Arenas SG - Butler SF- Jamison PF- Marshall C - Haywood That is a good lineup and throws us back into playoff contention once again I think.
Donyell Marshall would be the perfect addition for the Wizards. He would be an instant help on the boards, and would allow Jamison to slide to his natural position, SF. It also puts Jeffries on the place he belongs, the BENCH.
A couple more articles about this. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"A league source said yesterday that the Wizards have scheduled a meeting this weekend with free agent forward Donyell Marshall, who averaged 11.5 points and 6.6 rebounds for the Toronto Raptors last season. Marshall, 32, who is hosting a basketball camp in Reading, Pa., this week, has averaged 12.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in an 11-year career with Minnesota, Golden State, Utah, Chicago and Toronto. He has shot better than 40 percent from beyond the three-point line the past two seasons." -Washington Post</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"The Wizards would be looking at the 6-foot-9, 32-year-old Marshall most likely with their $4.9 million mid-level exception.
