<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Now that they've signed Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the Cavaliers' next move should be to explore every trade opportunity for Drew Gooden. It would be a huge mistake for the Cavaliers to come back with Gooden as their starting power forward. Why the rush to replace Gooden? He averaged 14.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, shot 49 percent and appeared in all 82 games. Besides, the Cavaliers need a point guard to help Eric Snow. Indeed they do, and it might be Sarunas Jasikevicius, the Lithuanian who was the best man at Ilgauskas' wedding along with being the Most Valuable Player in the European League. He's 29, is supposed to be a terrific shooter, and a strong leader at the point. But he can't defend. If the scouting reports are right, the Cavaliers could have a rerun of last season, when Jeff McInnis and Ilgauskas were so dismal attempting to stop a pick-and-roll play. General manager Danny Ferry has said coach Mike Brown believes he can correct some of the Cavaliers' defensive problems with his new team concepts. It's called ``HELP'' defense, and that doesn't mean a player dribbles past you and you scream ``HELP!!!'' It's kind of like playing a zone, switching off, and players understand who to defend as a unit -- not individually. What does that have to do with Gooden? He doesn't get it. That's what former Cavaliers coach Paul Silas told me. And it's what former interim coach Brendan Malone told me. And it's what I heard from executives in Orlando, which was Gooden's last stop before Cleveland. It's not that Gooden refuses to play defense. He just seems to struggle grasping the concepts and often is a step or two late. The Cavaliers can't have that. The signing of Larry Hughes is an upgrade. He made the NBA All-Defensive first team, led the league in steals, grabbed more than six rebounds a game and has Brown excited about fitting the 6-foot-5 guard into his defensive schemes. Snow is a solid defender at the point, but the Cavaliers still need to do something about their outside shooting. That makes free agent Jasikevicius appealing. While many fans want Antonio Daniels, don't be surprised if he signs a big contract somewhere. It's a very dim point-guard market, and he's the glittering star despite not being a full-time starter in Seattle. Gooden will be a free agent in the summer of 2006, so the $4 million left on his contract should make him attractive to a team wanting to create some salary-cap room a year from now. He also is a scorer, and some teams need that from their power forward -- because few have an offensive-minded center such as Ilgauskas.</div> Source
I liked the idea of getting radman, cause he can hit the three ball. But I guess he probably wouldn't fit the d scheme either. I also can't see walker fitting that scheme, how about swift anyone?
i think that gooden shud be given a chance under mike brown's system isntead of being shipped out without having a chance. last yr gooden avged a dbl dbl which not many ppl in the league are capable of doing so isntead of reaching a rushed trade (since haslem is now also off the market), i think ferry shud keep gooden at least until the trade deadline to see how he performs in a new system
Ehh Gooden is inconsistent, especially towards the end when the Cavs really needed a win, he failed to score those crucial points. I'd like to see him traded, or atleast benched.
Gooden is consistent enough to average a double double over 82 games, which is very consistent actually. I agree with Mustafa, even though Gooden has not picked up coaching concepts and such in the past that does not mean he can't learn them now. Gooden is still a good player with talent, he is a young dude so give him a chance don't just trade him away. If a team were to trade him every time he can't get the scheme of the game right then he will just end up being on a lot of teams without improving his basketball I.Q. If the Cavs give him a chance to mature some then I think he has a chance to get better and a great player in this league.
I'm keep reading of this crazy talk of him and pavlovic being traded to Utah for boozer and giricek. blah.
I really don't want to see Gooden traded for anything but a Top-Notch PG. Gooden is actually very consistent. Varejao simply enough is not ready to take over which is why Gooden has to be here right now.
I would rather see the cavs get boozer back! Booz is a better player..He can block and stuff..Drew Gooden is good..But Boozer is better..
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting mustafa_shakur:</div><div class="quote_post">another popular rumor now is gooden to seattle for reggie evans and probably another player.</div> I used to think Isiah is dumb Looks like BS
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting J-Rich23:</div><div class="quote_post">I used to think Isiah is dumb Looks like BS</div> Do you know how to put a sentence together? You're first sentence is a combination of past and present tense. And which GM exactly do you think is the dumb one?
No reason to trade Gooden after the season he had last yr. He matched the numbers Boozer had put up the year before. All th Cavs need to do is find another starting guard to go alongside Lebron and Larry in the backcourt. It doesnt have to be a pg, because Larry started at pg in this league for over 2 seasons.
I think gooden is a good fit and can only get better hopefully his defensive mistakes of last year won't be repeated over the next season or the cavs may have to consider trading him.
now, i dont really follow the cavs, but i just have a question. why are you guys trying to trade him when he almost averaged a double double, and he's still very young with a lot of improvement to do, and, he doesnt get paid as much as boozer, who i think is very overpaid.
gooden is inconsistant, but he is solid when he plays. he just has to give 100% every game and then you'll have a great player in gooden, but now that marshall is on board, shopping drew for a good starting pg is a good idea, the lineup of the cavs would be incredible with an upgrade at pg and starting marshall at pf.

I'm still a fan of his, but without a guy like Silas, who will bench Drew when he starts playing dumb basketball, Drew might revert completely to the Drew that loses games instead of winning them.
