<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rashad McCants' debut in a Timberwolves jersey could be delayed, perhaps until veterans camp this fall.

McCants, the Wolves' first-round draft choice in June's draft, aggravated a groin muscle pull in workouts over the weekend, was held out of much of Tuesday's minicamp practice and could miss summer league action at Target Center this weekend.

No final decision has been made about McCants' status, but, listening to new coach Dwane Casey, McCants sounds rather doubtful.

"We have to err on the side of caution because of his injury," Casey said. "I would rather have him [healthy] in veterans camp than have him here in summer league."

Casey said McCants, the No. 14 overall pick out of North Carolina, first suffered the injury during pro workouts. He tweaked it again over the weekend, during five-on-five workouts between rookies and a group of veterans assembled by Wolves player Trenton Hassell. McCants did some early work in practice and worked a bit on defense, but he didn't take much part in live action.

Casey had hoped to get a look at how McCants handled NBA-style defenses during the summer league.

"If a guy is hurt, he's hurt," Casey said. "That's something you can't force, you can't push. As much as we'd love him to play this summer, I don't want to force someone who is injured, in a situation where you could have permanent damage."

McCants' injury was one of several sustained by players on the Wolves' summer league roster. Forward Jamel Staten cut his head and required medical attention, and forward Ellis Myles strained a calf. Guards John Lucas and Paul McPherson turned ankles, though McPherson's injury wasn't serious.</div>

Save him for the regular season, there's no point in playing him in the summer league if he is injured. I wish he can play in these summer league games those, oh well I guess he will have to prove the haters wrong in the regular season.
