<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He's a rookie point guard with the Charlotte Bobcats. Although his height has been called into question many times, his quickness allows him to get his shot off against almost anyone.

He had some great NCAA tournament moments. This week he will head with the Bobcats' summer-league team to Salt Lake City, getting his first taste of NBA competition after dreaming about it for years.

Is our subject today Raymond Felton?

    No, it's Rashad Phillips.

Although Felton is the new Bobcats point guard everyone knows about, Phillips has just as interesting a back story and a more intriguing passport.

"Last year," Phillips said without a hint of irony, "I was first-team all-Turkey."

Once, in 1999, Phillips fouled out Baron Davis in the final minutes of an NCAA tournament game to engineer Detroit-Mercy's upset of UCLA. That was back when Phillips was nicknamed "The Excitin' Titan" and on his way to becoming Detroit-Mercy's all-time leading scorer.

"That was when people were talking about me as a late first-round pick," he said.

Now 27, Phillips is still officially an NBA rookie. Since his graduation, he has played one year in the NBA's developmental league and three seasons overseas -- one in Italy, one in France and most recently in Turkey.</div>

Wow, he's pretty old for a rookie..Doubtful he'll make the final cut, but I wish him the best of luck.

You never know, Horace Jenkins made it on the Pistons roster last year as a 30+ year old rookie.

Yeah, and I believe Arvydas Sabonis was 29 when he officially became a rookie.

I remeber Phillips from college. If he still has his speed, and proves he can shoot consistiently, and play D of course, he's got a roster spot.
