Of course, since the age limit comes into effect, the high school players who would have declared for 2006, now get pushed back a year and become eligible in 2007.

So is OJ Mayo class of '08? I thought he was 17 already so he should be in this draft or does he have to go to high school for an extra year or something?

He has to wait until 2008, because he won't be 19 until after the draft, since his birthday is in November. The new rule states you must be 19 before the day of the NBA Draft.

shape i think you're wrong.... the actual rule is that you have to be 19, OR 1 year removed from your graduating class. he'd be 1 year removed from his class when the draf rolls around... i think...

Yi Jianlian was born in 1984. He'll be automaticly eligible in 2006. However, he won't go that high in any draft.

Are you sure about ranking Tim Ohlbrecht at #8?

    Where is Ludovic Vaty?

Yi Jianlian is projected to be around 7'2" when he stops growing but the next Yao, I don't think so. Because of Yi's athletic ability, he will actually be able to play either the three or the four in the league (think Dirk). I must say he is rail thin though, and he will probably need to put on the pounds if he wants to be a top five pick.

Yi Jianlian stopped growing about two years ago. He's 20 now. He won't be the next Yao or anything.

this is true, but it's also the players like shannon brown and rondo that make that draft look very nice. Had the rule not taken effect I believe quite a few of these players would still have gone to college, such as Oden who says he would like to play more than a year or two at OSU.

You don't stop growing till your 25

and Yi is a prospect because of his atheleism and skill. He has good size, he doesnt have to be 7"5.

Jianlian's age was actually something we discussed when making the mock drafts, and the most recent source on the topic that we could find was the following article -

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The inevitable question: What?s Yi?s real age? 17 or 19? When the Chinese NT team published their roster a month ago. Yi was list as born at 1984. This news made a lot of noise even in the US media. When questioned by reporters, the director of the NT team, Gong Lumin was quoted ?It may be a typo.? and offered no further explanation. It was reported that the NT team has already changed the official roster info and Yi?s 1987 again. Rumors swirl around China that Yi?s birth year can be anywhere from 84 to 86. Some sources claimed that Yi?s parents got married in 1985. Considering having children before marriage was extremely rare in China at the 80?s, Yi must be born at 1985 or later.

The biggest complication is how the NBA will deal with his age. If they determine he is born in 1984, he is then eligible to enter the next (2005) draft, and he will automatically become eligible for the 2006 draft due to turning 22 in that year.

If the NBA determines he's born in 1987, he will have an additional 3 years to decide when to enter the draft, and would not be automatically eligible until the 2009 draft.

Whether or not Yi is actually born in 1984 or 1987, he will likely be a top 5 pick in the draft, and has a legitimate shot to go first whenever he enters the draft.</div>

    Link

With no other knowledge on Yi Jianlian's true age, we assumed that Jianlian's age would be changed to whatever was the most convenient for him at the time (just like Ilyasova did), and with the new CBA in place, the 2007 draft is very convenient for him. If you have any additional information on his official age, please pass it on, because we're aiming to become more accurate in predicting the stocks of international players. As for his draft stock, we have him projected in a deep draft, so I can understand why you feel he wouldn't go that high, but other than that, I see no reason to doubt his abilities. He's weak, but as a smooth 7-0 athletic freak that can play both Forward positions as well as Center, he's bound to get interest as a top pick.

I'm fine with where we have Ohlbrecht for now simply because I feel the top seven players are just more talented. He's a great prospect, and I acknowledge that he could be a top pick in the future, but right now I don't see any reason that we should put him over Julian Wright and Kevin Durant. As for Vaty, we excluded him because he was born in 1988, so he has the option of declaring as late as 2010. We could have put him in there, but it would be cheating our readers, because there are many international players like him that we just don't have the resources to scout yet. We've seen all of the college and all of the High School players play, we've seen a select few of these international players play, and we like to think of ourselves as very knowledgable about these prospects, but at the end of the day, this is just a mock draft by the fans for the fans, and we won't be getting paid nor offered the resources to scout these international players.

    Kinda reminds me of
    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">(3) NAME OF THE WEEK

    Samba Gueye

There's a player in Africa who could spur wide-spread popularity of the NBA there--6-9 Senegalese forward Samba Gueye, who is 16 but already is wowing scouts with his athleticism and his 7-5 wingspan. Gueye has committed to Southern California. "He's unbelievable," says one international scout. "I'd be shocked if he is not top three in the draft (in 2005). I'd be blown away if he actually winds up (at USC)."--Sean Deveney, TSN Sep. 22, 2003</div>

Yi is 20+, book it. And that reduces his upside enormously.
