<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The San Antonio Spurs have made yet another international coup, it appears.

The Spurs have come to an agreement in principle with Argentinean center Fabrico Oberto, according to his agent, Herb Rudoy.

Oberto, who averaged 14.2 ppg and 7.3 rpg for Parmesa in Spain this season, is widely regarded as one of the top five players in Europe.

He was the team captain of the Argentina team that defeated Team USA at the 2002 World Championships. He dropped 28 points on Yugoslavia's Vlade Divac in the finale of that tournament.

Oberto is a warrior in the paint with polished moves around the post. He's a good scorer, rebounder and defender who has the toughness and aggressiveness to be an excellent role player in the league. He's also a great passer in the post and frequently draws comparisons to Divac on that skill. Don't be surprised if he is the Spurs starting center on opening night.

Good move but no Scola? Thats really messed up. All the talk was that Scola was headed to the Spurs for next season. Guess the buyout costs too much.

Spurs are smart, they sign and get all the ready international prospects.

unlike Detriot, who don't even know how to use Darko correctly, lol........you don't expect 17 year old european kids to jump from a junior league straight from the NBA, and expect them to develop their skills sitting on the bench getting 5 minutes a game [IMG]

Spurs again prove why they have the best front office in the NBA

scola's buyout is $14.5 million. spurs can only contribute 350k of that. yeah, scola can bring it to arbitration, but if that doesn't turn out well (the buyout is more than scola is willing to pay out of his own pocket) then the spurs may not have gotten either of them.

in the mean time, the rich get richer while the lakers get kwame brown.

Oberto is a great player,if I remember correctly he broke his arm in the Olympics.
Is old but can really contribute right away.
How old is Scola? I've been waiting for him like 2-4 years and I heard somewhere that the Spurs have rights to Herman who's also from Argentina. (SF)

Uh why though? Nazr is still relatively young, plus he's better than Oberto.

SA really does like the international flavor...

Sounds like a good pickup having him named one of the best in Europe.

Oberto is good when it comes to defense. Plus he's tall, 6'11 or something.
