Riley's return is "imminent" According to ESPN basketball analyst Dr. Jack Ramsey, Pat Riley has contacted Stan Van Gundy and has told him that he will most likely return to the bench. Where will this leave SVG. I don't know my gut feeling is that he will. Personally, I think that if Riley was coaching the Heat in Game 7 vs. the Pistons, Miami would've won that game. This seems disrespectful to me, but I'm kinda happy that Pat is coming back.
If he comes back as a coach, then I have no idea what the hell Riley is doing. He resigns on his team before the team begins their season, rushing SVG into a situation in which he does an amazing job. Then they get Shaq, a breakout superstar in Wade, all of this while Van Gundy is still doing a great job and he suddenly wants to come back? I don't like this at all if it is true.
I figured that Riley wanted to coach. I feel back for Stan Van Gundy. Hopefully he gets picked up by another team. Van Gundy is a very good coach. Jack Ramsey is definitely a trusted source in the NBA. (assuming the report is true) I don't see Van Gundy settleling for an Assitant Coach position with Riley as Head Coach. I'm sure Shaq had a huge say in this decision. I think Shaq and the rest of the players like Van Gundy, but they surely would not mind playing for Riley. Like I said in a previous thread, if Riley did not want to come back he would of said so by now.

Don't you think that the Heat would've won game 7 if Riley was coaching them.

Poor Lamar Odom lol. The coach he always wanted to play for leaves before he plays his first game as a member of the Heat and now he's coming back lol.
Why would the Heat give the ball to Shaq with any less than 2-3 minutes to go? That is Wade's time, and we all know how horrid Shaq's FT shooting is. You can't take that risk.

I know he wants the ball in his hands, but you can't risk giving the ball to someone who shoots 47% from the line no matter who it is.
Dr Jack said that he thought Riley would come back and coach the Heat cause. "He likes being a GM, but still misses coaching." He didnt say that Riley would call SVG and tell him he was coaching. Plus...check todays Sun-Sentinel article, which reiterates Riley, sayng that SVG is our coach. Riley simply wants to help with the coaching of during practice. Come game time, he will be in the stands with the rest of us. Reporters caught that, and had to blow it up. Riley is not going to come back and coach this team. SVG did a great job in his first two seasons as a head coach. Coaches need experience as much as players do, and Im completely confident in his abilities and where he will take us next season.

Look for the Heat's scoring average to decrease alot next year then. It's hardly a surprise that Riley's ego has again took over. Very bad on SVG's part. Pat has had his time, let Van Gundy have his.
Well, shape just posted an article about the whole Riley thing. SVG will coach next year, and thank god. I would lose a lot of respect for Riley if he did that.
If Riley did coach the Heat would SVG stay as a assitant coach or coach the Sonics or a team without a coach?
I don't see why he would stay. He is coaching the Heat this season, but, IF Riley were to demote him, I don't think Van Gundy would stay. He would probably go to Seattle or New York etc, but no point in speculating since he's coming back.

Uh.. I was just naming examples IF he was leaving. But he isn't, so there's no point to talking about it.
