Warriors lost as usual. Biedrins got 17 points and 10 boards, Williams got 17 points. Diogu got 15 and 7, Ellis got 20 points. What's with the title of the thread? It's only summer league, man. It's meant for observing players, not to put these guys in a position to win. There's probably no team game, no play sets, no ball movement, only isolations. Plus, we have no center except for B-drinch. TECHNICAL FOULS: Ike Diogu (1), Andri Biedrins (1), Jawad Williams nice!
I guess Taft didn't play... i havent seen him on the box scores. Ellis, Biedrins, and Williams had very good games. Biedrins especially, a double double with only 8 minutes of PT in the second half, plus two blocks, 7-9 fts, no turnovers, 62% FGs, a steal, and 6 of his 10 rebounds were on offense. Here is draftcity's report: http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1043 I wouldn't say Biedrins is our only center in SL, Taft is more C than PF as far as i know: bad jumper, shot blocker, very strong, and stays close to the rim.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Andris Biedrins- A dominant first half for the Latvian seven footer. He took the ball strong every single time he got the ball in the post, and was rewarded with both points and fouls with the work he did inside. Biedrins challenged Boston?s big men again and again and came away on top almost every single time with a dunk or a trip to the line thanks to his tenacity around the rim. Biedrins is one tough SOB, that?s for sure. He played excellent defense in the post as well, blocking a few shots and changing many others. His free throw mechanics are horrible thanks to a really bad hitch just as he is about to release it, but it actually went in for him today at a decent clip. Biedrins barely played in the 2nd half, but looked good when he was on the floor. He managed to scrap together enough rebounds to get to double digits and added a basket to make his way to 17 points as well. Monta Ellis- Ellis continues to play extremely well and is gaining more and more confidence in himself by the day. He got to the basket whenever he pleased thanks to his outstanding first step and some great moves on the perimeter to free himself up. Time after time he floated through the lane and showed a soft touch around the basket. His passing skills started off looking shaky, but as the game progressed he started showing some real flashes of court vision. The pick and roll is still a foreign concept to him, but Ellis showed a lot of tools here to lead you to believe that he will be fine after some seasoning in the NBDL. Monta played 8 minutes in the third quarter at the off guard spot and did absolutely nothing. In the 4th quarter in the midst of a 25 point blowout he got to play the point once again and managed to make things happen on the offensive end like he did in the first half. He continued to get to the basketball at will and always finished strong at the basket even after drawing contact. He also showed off his stroke from behind the arc, one of the stronger points of his game. He finished with 20 points on 7-13 shooting. Ike Diogu- A quiet first half for Diogu today, but he still made his presence felt on the glass pretty well and by scoring a little bit around the basket. He picked his spots pretty well and did a better job of staying out of foul trouble this time. Another nice half for Diogu, without drawing too much attention to himself. He did his job on both ends of the floor and finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Jawad Williams- After a decent first half with 6 points, his first glimpse of life in this summer league beyond his quotes about how good he is, Jawad came out firing in the 2nd half but wasn?t hitting anything from outside to start off with. He kept taking the first look he was given every time he touched the ball, looking as if he was desperate to just get up as many shots as he could in as little time as possible. A couple of very nice tip in on offensive rebounds and some dunks around the basket helped him get going in the second half to finish with 17 points. This has been a very frustrating week for Jawad here so far, not being able to show off too much of the athletic ability or defense which even made him a prospect to start off with. He came to life a little bit at times here today, but still has a long way to go to show people that he is truly an NBA player. Scoring garbage points around the basket like he did today isn't going to cut it. </div> above quoted
Can't say I am thrilled with all those blow outs. After all, our team has 5 NBA players (grant that 3 of them didn't play single mins yet), so I thought we should at least compete against other summer league teams. At least our 5 NBA players look good, so I guess I should be glad for that...
Our guards are horrible. Monta plays 35 minutes a game which is alot for any player in SL games. We arent going for wins either, we are trying to develop our players and we dont play our better players too much because they need to be healthy and fresh for the season.
The W's summer roster listed Ronald Ross of Tex Tech,a G with some game, can be an NBA PG....but he has not been in a box score, dunno why. We should be scouting other teams summer squads for a decent backup PG,as a camp invite

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting J-Rich23:</div><div class="quote_post">He was realeased</div> I guess they shortened their roster by choice and also not by choice with injuries to Chris Taft and the Zarkmeister. http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/2005_summ...eague_home.html http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/summer_le...05_recap_4.html <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Andris Biedrins turned in an impressive double-double in his finest effort of the summer league, but Golden State dropped an 89-109 decision to the Boston Celtics in the team?s penultimate game at the Reebok Vegas Summer League. Golden State was playing a bit shorthanded as the team dressed only nine players, with both Zarko Cabarkapa (left knee tendonitis) and Chris Taft (back spasms) watching the game in street clothes. Biedrins, with one-year of NBA experience under his belt after being selected by the Warriors with the 11th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds in 21 minutes of action. He connected on 5-of-8 field goals and 7-of-9 free throws, while showcasing a wide array of post-up moves and finishing several put-backs off the offensive boards. Guard Monta Ellis continued his steady and impressive improvement, registering a team summer league high 20 points (7-13 FG, 1-3 3FG, 5-9 FT) - most of which came on speedy drives to the hoop. Ike Diogu finished with 15 points (6-13 FG, 3-4 FT) and seven rebounds, while free agent forward Jawad Williams finished with 17 points (7-13 FG, 0-2 3FG, 3-3 FT). The Warriors fell behind 5-12 early in the first quarter, but a solid team effort got them back in the game as they closed the gap to 18-21 after one quarter. In the second period, the Warriors outscored the Celtics 26-20 to take a 44-41 lead into intermission. Biedrins finished the first half with 15 points and seven rebounds. The third quarter was not as kind to the Warriors, as Boston took over of the contest by outscoring Golden State 15-34 in the period. Trailing 59-75 heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriors played the Celts fairly even in the final quarter, but the damage had already been done. This contest will be televised on NBATV on July 21 (3:00 p.m. & 11:00 p.m.) and July 22 (9:00 a.m.). Golden State concludes its 2005 Summer League schedule on Friday when it takes on Phoenix at 8:00 p.m. </div>
I saw the game! woohoo! Biedrins looked awesome in the first half. He even sunk at least 80% of his free throw shots and handled the ball some like a guard. I didn't think he could put the ball on the floor that well and protect the ball, but he did do a crossover and advanced the ball down the court some after a guard gave him the ball for some reason. He had a huge dunk inside and a variety of post up moves (mainly drop steps and turn around short range jumpers). His arms look buff. The announcer said he gained 20 lbs, so Biedrens must be 260 right now. I don't know what happened to Diogu, but man he looked lost and had a hard time inside the paint. Probably a bad game and the fact they put Kendrick Perkins on him. That's a tough matchup. Ellis looked like a Dajuan Wagner type player, talented and polished scorer, but I like the fact he just drove on anybody at will rather than settling for jumpers. Wish he passed more on the fastbreak and actually hit 80% of his free throws. Also on the pick and roll there was an opportunity to hit the big guy, but he passed it up. I guess he felt the long J was a better look than the one inside to the undersized big man. Diogu had a couple dunks, but he doesn't look very quick. He looks as fast as Murphy or Foyle and looked a bit lost like Dunleavy, but Diogu does look very solid fundamentals wise and he reads in the situation like a Dunleavy type player would. He's there where you expect him to be on defense and receiving the pass under the hoop. He's got very big hands. I'm sure it was just a bad game. They asked him to play some center against Kendrick Perkins and that's really not his gig. He got blocked a bunch of times inside like Murphy getting stuffed by guards. He never settled for the long jumper so my guess is he did what the coach asked him to do which was play inside against a 265 lb 6'10 F/C. This is probably not good if Diogu is to guard guys like Jermaine O'neil or Tim Duncan or any other center playing as a power forward.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post">I guess our summer league guards must really suck</div> That was something else I forgot to mention in my post game wrap up. Our SL guards suck besides Monta. Its like they were jacking up shots so they could show they want to belong in the league. They reminded me of guys who play pick up ball at the local gym. They think they are better than they really are. I was mad every time they jacked up an ill advised shot. IMO the only time those guys should shoot the ball is when our guys like Monta, Taft, Diogu, Chewy and Biedrens give them a WIDE open look. They should always be looking to set up those guys to make themselves look better. It was like they were auditioning for the team. None of those guys are going to make the team. Although I guess they might be auditioning for any team if we dont pick them up and someone else likes them enough...
I thought the entry passes were more horrible than the shot selection. They got so many turnovers just by throwing the pass away. It's not like Diogu has a short reach or can't catch the ball with one hand. It's not like he was getting pushed off the block. The guards just couldn't feed the big man the ball. And it's obvious the guards make a big difference in how our big man produce, no matter how offensively challenged. Look at Baron Davis and Adonal Foyle. Also the Sonics, Bulls, Suns who had decent big men didn't become major disappointments again after they aquired or got more playing time from their point guards, pure guys who can run a team and pass. Also the Bobcats didn't suck as badly with Brevin Knight and Jason Hart to feed Emeka Okafor and Gerald Wallace. Each guard we had probably averaged about 1 assist, and any big man knows that it's tough enough to score down low when a bad pass forces them to give up their position on the block. Then when they try to put it up, there's no guard rotating over to receive the pass if the big man doesn't want to force the issue. No wonder Mario Elie was getting frustrated even if it was only SL. It was definitely amateur night and probably would have frustrated anybody. Also, I forget who, but there was an idiot play where a Warriors guard actually draws in his defender onto Diogu instead of himself on an iso play.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post"> Also, I forget who, but there was an idiot play where a Warriors guard actually draws in his defender onto Diogu instead of himself on an iso play.</div> Thats the play I thought of when you complained about the horrible entry passes. They defender was like 2ft from each player. It was so stupid. The guard should have reversed the ball and stepped back to call for the ball to give it to Diogu...
