<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MINNEAPOLIS?Money is the central issue in negotiations between the Raptors and two of their youngest players, but the differences far outweigh the similarities as talks continue with the representatives of Matt Bonner and Roko Ukic.

And GM Rob Babcock, here for a summer league season that begins this afternoon, may be facing a difficult decision in at least one of the cases.

Bonner endeared himself to Raptor fans with hustle and a personality perfectly suited to curry favour with the paying customers who admire effort as much as they do athleticism. But he remains unsigned and may stay that way for a while as Babcock and Bonner's agent try to figure out exactly what the young forward is worth.

"We really want Matt back, there's no doubt about that," Babcock said yesterday.

And then he let the other shoe drop: "But there's a dollar figure and you can't go over that."</div>

Hmm... maybe the Ukic deal isn't done yet..

What did I say? Didn't I just talk about the Scalbrine issue in the other thread? People seem to think players and agents are idiots, if Scalabrine is getting paid that much, Bonner's agent is going to make sure he get's at least $2 million a year or close to it.

If Bonner wants anything close to Scalabrine's deal, then it's as simple as not signing him. It's not like we're dying for a PF.

I hope to keep him and pay him what he is worth. [IMG]

He is a Sam Mitchell kind of guy, and there is no problem with having an extra one of those.

Would you guys be willing to pay 2.5-3 Million for Bonner? That's almost how much Scalabrine will be making.

$2 million is about the max figure that I'd pay for Bonner. As much as I love his hustle and his jumpshot ability, with the way Slokar is playing I think we can bring him over next season to replace Bonner if necessary.

Bonner is younger than Scalabrine and I think he is a smarter player than Scalabrine, I've seen Scalabrine make some dumb mistakes, and he seems to be quite slow.

And of what i've seen, Bonner has a better shot.

But off topic, Scalabrine and Bonner are long-lost twins... lol

Of course. Bonner and Scalabrine are cousins of cousins of brothers of sisters of cousins of.... [IMG]

Subway should give an endorsement deal to Matt Bonner considering how much money he spends every season on their subs.

Anyway.. I think that when and if Matt Bonner is signed, and we get Devin Brown, our 3 pt shooter situation is pretty much set.

Are the Raps interested in Devin Brown? That wouldn't be a bad pickup if the price is right.

Babcock on Fan590 had that infamous "No Comment" answer when Swirsky asked him about Devin Brown. So I'm assuming that Babcock means 'We do have interest in him but we're not going to reveal anything until something is finalized.' If he had no interest in Brown he'd have simply denied the rumour.

I hate Rob Babcock. Why can't he just tell everyone straight up and not be a prick with his bs answers like JP Ricarddi.

I actually had hoped that we would sign Devin Brown, but I heard that Devin Brown would love to stay in SA because he's player there his whole life, and he would take less money. However, he does has back problems so the Spurs might not re-sign him if he wants too much. Maybe a sign and trade...Devin Brown for Lamond Murray? [IMG]

I actually like that style of his. It keeps the other teams wondering. I'm all for Devin Brown & Lamond Murray deal! [IMG]

we don't want to get ourselves in the same situation as we did with JYD just because he is a fan favorite.

If Bonner wants too much money, we should let him walk.
