<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">TD Banknorth Garden officially replaced the FleetCenter name Friday, four months after a Maine bank reached a 20-year naming-rights deal for the home of the NBA's Boston Celtics and the NHL's Boston Bruins. Thousands of old FleetCenter signs will be replaced with the new name, arena spokesman Jim Delaney said. Most of the work is expected to be completed by Labor Day. Exterior FleetCenter signs have already been taken down and replaced with a huge banner that reads, "Go ahead, call it the Garden again." The TD Banknorth Garden refers to the arena's sponsor, Portland, Maine-based TD Banknorth Inc., and to the Boston Garden, the name of the storied former structure replaced in 1995 when the newer arena opened. Fans at the old Garden witnessed 16 Celtics NBA titles and five Bruins Stanley Cups. TD Banknorth reached the naming-rights deal in March with the arena's owner, Delaware North Cos., for a reported $5 million to $6 million per year. The FleetCenter name is disappearing because Charlotte, N.C.-based Bank of America acquired FleetBoston Financial Group last year but chose not to conclude a new naming-rights deal for the arena.</div> Source The Fleetcenter was nice but i like how the new name has the Garden in it very old school I like it, what do you guys think about it?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting miamiballa12:</div><div class="quote_post">fleet centers a classic? isn't it new? i thought the boston garden was a classic.</div> wait..i got them confused my bad.
Yeah..Fleet center is new..They need 2 go back 2 boston garden, and take the floor back with em', cause they never won a championship after the change!
Ya the fleetcenter never seen a Celtics championship but the old Garden has and the new one will too.
I'm kind of surprised that Banknorth has the gaul to include Garden in the name, but hey, maybe it will bring good luck. Although, if you ask me, a building is building, it either has that charm or it doesn't, and the Fleetcenter (READ: TD Banknorth Center) doesn't. The Garden was something that every Boston fan identified with and loved, even those of us who only went there a couple times. Those obscured view nose bleed seats on the top level were a great source of Bostonian pride as well as agitation, which, to my eyes, is the paradox of being a Boston fan. Any kind of Boston fan. Well, here's to hoping it goes well in the newly dubbed TD Banknorth Garden, at least it's a decent enough facility.
I hope they leave the floor in the Fleet Center..Because, they brought that from the Boston Garden, but they never got close 2 a championship in the Fleet Center, so now the floor is cursed! Leave it!
This is exactly what I hate about sports these days, everybody has to cash in on whatever they can. Why not the Boston Garden? Sponsorship-smonshorship, I hate corporate decisions.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rodderz:</div><div class="quote_post">but they never got close 2 a championship in the Fleet Center, so now the floor is cursed! I like the new name. I'm liking the idea of having the term "Garden" in the title of the stadium. I never liked the Fleetcenter. They still need to keep the parquet floor though.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Banks:</div><div class="quote_post">Better than TD Waterhouse...</div> Well, TD Waterhouse and TD Banknorth are two totally different companies, but yeah, TD Waterhouse does sound kind of lame. At least it has decent name recognition, what with its national ad campaign. TD Banknorth doesn't have nearly the same national impact, so consider it a blessing for the Magic Organization, it probably pulls in more in sponsorship dollars, and overall helps the club. Not to say that Banknorth won't get that recognition now that they are a major part of the public arena, with just one simple investment they now have their name all over the country, thanks to the sports media. Always a sound dollar spent.
i say knock the d-mn thing down and resurrect the old boston garden-the fleetctr or new garden or whomever the highest ebay bidder' name for the day has no personality is a third rate arena-i always say we got jipped in getting a new arena
i agree fleetcenter was so easy to pronounce. i hate how they try to connect with fans by plugging the word "Garden" after their company name, TD Banknorth. Either call it the Boston Garden or don't use "Garden" at all and make up your own crappy name.
People are just going to call it "the garden" anyway, but it's not like the name of the arena means anything in the first place. As long as they don't name it after Mark Blount, I'm fine with it.
